Haggle spoils a nice stay

This is the second time I've stayed at this Super 8 in the last 3 years.
I arrived after midnight and couldn’t get the desk clerk (who said he was the manager's uncle visiting from Richardson Texas) to honor the published Super 8 senior discount. He told me that the discount applied to 60 and older.
In the morning I pointed out to the desk clerk that the 2008 Super 8 International Directory that I picked up in Kalispell, Montanna (which was identical to the one posted in his motel room) stated the Senior discount applied to 50 and up. He then told me to look for the senior "SR" icon. I showed him that his Super 8 had the senior "SR" icon. He then twice told me the 2008 Directory "expired in May" and that the current Senior discount only was for 60 and above. He then shook my hand, looked me straight in the eye and told me that the next time I stayed at his motel that I could stay for free. Too bad I didn't get that in writing! Who knows? If he really meant it, maybe he'll send me a letter.
Early in the morning, I called the Super 8 Customer Care Hotline and opened a case to report his refusal to honor the published rates. They said the Directory was current but that each motel is independely owned and operated and that they couldn't get them to honor the rate. Super 8 CC did however quickly fax the desk clerk notification of the case. The desk clerk immediately agreed to honor the published discount and asked me to call the CC Hotline to tell them that the case was satisfactorily closed. This was the only issue that spoiled an otherwise nice stay.
Overall, a clean, fresh, cigarette smoke free, and friendly atmosphere. There was some black mold growing around the bath tub to wall joints (I took pictures for the record). Carpets were stained in a few places. Bed was too soft, but clean. Wireless internet worked great. Some of the bath room lights appeared to be burned out. Continental breakfast runs out quick so go well before its 9AM ending time.
Except for the desk clerk, none of the rest of the staff spoke any English. I think they were all immigrants from India.
