My bad experience at Marriott Sharm El Sheikh
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
I have recently stayed at the Marriott Sharm El Sheikh resort in Egypt (16/10/2007 – 19/10/2007) and I was shocked of the status of this hotel in comparison to the other Marriott hotels I have visited or stayed in including the one in Cairo.
The hotel location, entrance, and main lobby are great and give the sense of a modern high standard hotel, but the problem is with the staff, and the rooms.
The rooms are so old and in un-maintained shape. Some of the floor tiles are broken, and others are not fixed to the floor. The white cement between the tiles has changed to black. The room furniture is also old, cheap, and lacks any modesty or style. The wooden furniture is scratched, and the linens are old.
The toilet was miserable; fully white, but turned into grey because of the dirt and all the white cement joints are black. The WC had a leakage and the flush tank made loud sounds when the water was filling the tank after flushing. It lacked basic items such as cotton buds and loaf. My wife could not even take a shower, and she booked at the beauty saloon for shampoo while we were there.
When I checked inn, I was given a twin bedroom although I have requested a single king size bed. When I called the front desk, and told them that this is not what I have requested, the front desk staff, and his name was Sherif, replied saying that they don’t have any king size bedrooms, and he sarcastically told me that I must have done the booking months back, when I told him that I have booked for a king size bed before arriving.
When I spoke to someone at top management whom I knew through one of my friends, I was immediately given a king size bedroom at the third level, so why I was not given this room through the front desk when I requested it.
In the room, you can hear all the noises from the corridor, so if you want to get a good sleep and noises bother you, you will have to forget your sleep, or sleep after all the guests sleep.
The check-in and out took me about half an hour each, which is too slow. We had no problems in checking in or out but the process is so slow and the staff attend more than a customer at a time, and answer calls while I was standing there waiting to complete my check in/ out.
