Broke out in a RASH
By Anastasia, 3/18/10
First time in Chicago for a convention. It was a beautiful few days but the hotel really blew it for me. The room was small and stinky, had a hard time loging onto the internet, the bathrooms were gross, the bed was hardly made and the next morning i woke up with a rash on my face. The help was no help. Room service started around 8 am right outside my door with a lady yelling back and forth to a man with no consideration to their guests. the moment i open the door as if it scared her she flips out and yells at me... thats just WRONG. I wish I chose somewhere else to stay and i wish i read the reviews before i booked it. It was horrible, ive stayed in pretty cheap places before, but this was the worst and a complete waste of money!!!! After checking out I needed to leave my bags at the hotel while I went out before my trip home. I was charged a $1.00 a bad and was critisized for not traveling light by the man behind the counter.. Im sorry, first of all it is my business what i have and bring, I am in a new city and im traveling, of course im going to have more than one bag and im going to go shopping. this place just put a damper on my stay. I plan to go back to chicago many more times, but never will i stay here or probably any travellodge.

Probably not a good idea
By YangzhouD, 8/5/09
Room was dirty. A train passing in front of the window every 15 minutes. Air conditioner sounds like a rotating saw. You have to have a super high tolerance to discomfort to live here.

Horrible Experience at this hotel!!!!!!!
By Brian VandeWalle, 7/26/09
When we got there everything seemed okay. ONce we got to the room we knew we had an issue. The photos we had looked at online were of a photoshoped TravelLodge room. The room was tiny...dirty...and smelled. We immediatley decided to go to another hotel. We needed to use their complimentary computer to do so. They have a firewall blocking ALL OTHER HOTEL Sites. LOL....what a joke. We ended up calling back home to Texas and having family find us an alternative. We ended up staying at the Extend-a-Stay just south a chicago and we enjoyed it sooooo much more. The extend-a-stay was nothing fancy but it beat the TRAVELLODGE in price, cleanliness, odors, and customer service.

Run-down, unorganized, smells like cigarettes
By Stacey, 5/11/09
We reserved the Sleepy Bear Den and our kids were so excited, but when we arrived we were sent to a room that was NOT the Sleepy Bear Den. The front desk said they had already someone in their only Sleepy Bear Den and they didn't see on our reservation that we had already booked this room. Parking was something like $32, and we had to argue with the guys in the lot to get MOST of it back. Hotel is very run-down and smells like cigarettes. The room they sent us to looked like a ghetto apartment. I don't know why anyone would want to stay here.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
By BLAM!, 8/15/08
even in terms of being an efficient, cheap hotel, this was a horrible stay. the main reason? this is not your average Travelodge. this is like going to a privately owned McDonald's - one where they don't care if their employees have been handling the toliet plunger before they scoop up your french fries. you're better off being a little further from where you want to be, or paying a little bit more. it WILL be worth it. the following is a letter i sent to the company after my stay: To Whom It May Concern, The experience I had at your downtown Chicago hotel near Grant Park was the worst a human being could have without having been the victim of something blatantly illegal. The front desk service was rude and extremely unprofessional. Whether it was laughing and telling me to walk five blocks to 7-11 for simple bathroom items; to sending us up to the 8th floor upon checking in - only to find out they had given us the wrong room number, key, and floor; to trying to get us to pay for a room twice at checkout; all aspects of our vacation involving Travelodge were an utter nightmate. Other "highlights" include: lack of a bottom sheet on the bed; spiders in the towels; a television remote that had fallen apart; empty vending machines on all but the highest floors; and a sticky bathroom floor. Having stayed at many of your hotels across the nation numerous times with friends and family, I have to say I am personally hurt and offended. As a loyal customer, I was expecting your normal level of efficient excellence. After this experience, I must admit that I, myself - nor any of my loved ones - will ever be so trusting again. Here's to hoping a serious look is taken at the standards of operations at your downtown chicago facility. For the benefit of all involved.

Fell in love with Chicago
By YolandaD, 5/6/08
My husband and I were very impressed with the hotel and the employees---especially the bellman, Lester Hart. We asked directions to many places and he knew exactly how to direct us. He was very congenial and we appreciated it. We got an upgrade to a kitchenette and were very happy with it. The bathroom was completely renovated and the beds were comfy and clean. Appreciated having the beds turned down. We havent encountered that before. Even in a Hawaiian condo. Will definitely stay here again and will tell our friends the same.

Stayed in worse
By jmb, 10/14/07
You get what you pay for. I had to stay somewhere between business meetings at 2 much nicer locals. I had a non-smoking room but the stench od cigarette smoke coming through the bathroom air vents was so overpowering I had to turn on my vent to keep the smell out. The L runs right next to the hotel and not only that its where it turns so you also get the wheel screech as it makes the curve. My room was on the North East side of the hotel which is the worse possible location. I lived in NYC and not too far from an elevated train but this was MUCH worse. I got a pair of earplugs from the Walgreens down the street. The dresser and coffee table were broken and the carpet was worn. The water pressure in the shower was pretty much non existant. The only reason I gave this place 3 stars is that the staff was nice enough and I've stayed at much worse places in the past -- in Europe and at a Best Western in Virginia. I had a King suite so it was VERY roomy and had enough space to stretch out and do some work. Also, internet access was free and very reliable, much more than I can say for pricier hotels. Not much to do in the area though, the area is pretty dead at night.

Superb location...great price.
By Bobby, 8/15/07
Had a good stay...I doubt you will find a cheaper rate for the price in the same location. Interior looked a bit old. Service was good too.

The Price is Right for the Location....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/07
But you get what you pay for. Ok, so the thing about this hotel is that you are paying for the location. It is located just one block off Michigan Ave. and within walking distance of all the major attactions in the loop--about three blocks from the art museum and right across the street from Grant Park. It also had convienient parking in a lot right next to the hotel and it is cheap--only $20/night--considerably less than other hotels in the area. On the down side, the El runs right by the north side of the building so if you end up on that side it is a little noisy. Overall, the room was average and needed a little more attention from housekeeping in the bathroom. It definitely wasn't all shiney and new, but I would stay again. If you don't mind not having all the amenities I would recommend.

cheap turist hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/10/07
Cheap hotel in the loop, Probalby the cheapest hotel in downtown Chicago. Rooms are large and clean and had large beds, we had the large 2 king bedroom. never went to the so called restaurant (looks like a cheap diner). better to eat something in the neighborhood.
