Quality versus price - not even
By ,
They had my reservation wrong so first night had a VERY small room. Got an upgrade the second night to a very large suite. Loved the coffee and the coffee service to the room. Claw foot tub was wonderful. Tiny room with IKEA furniture was not comfortable and not worth the price tag.

Think twice
By ,
I booked what the hotel calls a junior suite for my wife and me. I stayed in the Ace Portland about a year ago in a standard room with bath and was satisfied but thought this time a little more room would be nice for the two of us. The "junior suite" turned out to be smaller than the standard room I had previously. When I asked the front desk about it they insisted it was a junior suite and I must be mistaken about my previous stay. After some bickering they agreed to charge us the standard room rate. The hotel was full so moving to another room was not a possibility according to them. The hotel website is quite vague about what size and what amenities are included with each type of room. Buyer beware! Also, if you are driving, parking is do it yourself in a small lot a block away which fills up quickly. Its as easy to park in another lot and cheaper.

Very cool refurbishment
By ,
This place has been completely refurbished 6 months ago. It has an adjoining coffee shop and also a restaurant the other side. It's set in what seems to be an up and coming bohemian feel part of town and is very cool. It would be perfect for 20 somethings looking for somewhere to chill, but even as a young 34 year old I found it a bit too cool to feel completely at home here. All the same, an excellent job done on the refurb !

Be afraid, be very afraid!
By ,
We had no hot water, and no way to talk to the manager, who hid out in the basement trying to "fix" the system all morning. No showers and no offer to compensate for any of the guests. Plus, the manager put the poor desk people in the line of fire by refusing to speak to any of us. Really rotten service.

Caution
By ,
Don't fall for the glowing description of the Clyde's renovated charms. The room was small and dark with no ventilation and smelled of stale smoke. No TV reception, no electrical outlets. Management was unconcerned with customer's needs and disingenuous in its self-promotion. Parking is a huge hassle. Unless you are interested in the noisy, crowded social scene at the neighboring clubs you should avoid this hotel.
