Canadian Trippers in Italy

Myself and my travel companion are from Canada. We travelled to Bari, Italy as it was a stopover on our Ferry route to Croatia. There were NO hostels in this city. It is not a city for tourist. Although the city is magnificantly beautiful, it is not accomodating for young backpackers. We ended up having to walk for hours with 50 lb. packs just to find a bed to sleep in. We were directed to a "hotel" called Casa Fiore... it was super hard to find and looked like it was some guy's grandma's house that he was trying to rent out for a night! We then had to trek around to find a real hotel and we came across Cristal Hotel a few times. We finally decided to go in and ended up having to pay 55 Euros per night, in November!!! The cleanliness of the hotel was not an issue at all, but the ammenities were something to be less desired. Just not good value for what money we paid!
