It was perfect
By Linda, 2/27/12
I almost did not choose this B & B because of the previous reviews what a mistake that would have been. We had a fabulous time , the mansion is just lovely , built amongst the trees with great water views. We had breakfast and dinner there both were very good and so very nicely presented. We had wine and cheese in front of the fireplace in the library and visited with family in another room in front of yet another huge fireplace. Philip and Cecilia were very gracious hosts and Cecilia was generous enough to share her recipes. We hope to come back when the gardens are in bloom .

No welcome mat here
By Lauren, 7/27/10
On our arrival we were a bit early, and the woman addressed her husband in a very sharp tone with an angry look in her eye until informed we were the couple that had booked but simply arrived early, not an unwelcome interloper. Instead of the seclusion being a plus, its incomparable setting in the woods and on the water, we felt really creeped out, like a cross between The Bates Motel and The Overlook, and had it been the off-season, cold, wet, dark, lonely....well.... The dated nature of the house is part of the potential charm it has, and the grounds are a veritable paradise of a garden, and in all fairness our breakfast was very good. But madame would do well with some serious personality coaching, while the man of the house is quite personable for his own behalf. On reading the other reviews, I see however that there is equal opportunity hubris.

Haven't been in ages.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/10
Makes me sad that one of my favorite places visited when I was a young girl has had such horrible reviews. The house, when I visited, belonged to Col. Julian and his wife Constance. Constance was sister to my godmother, Agnes. I remember the mirror being tinted pink "so everyone would leave with a glow" was one of the Col's favorites ! What a guy ! It was a wonderful place once...maybe someday, somebody will help the "old girl out" and do some much needed work and remove the cobwebs. I certainly hope so. It was a one-of-kind to me in all the beautiful places to visit in the Northwest.

WAY overrated!!!!!
By Calla Lily, 12/17/08
We stayed at this "B&B" for a romantic getaway and it was anything but!!! The owner (Cecelia) was pretentious and extremely rude. We had asked about things to do in the area since we're not from Washington and she was obviously bothered by us as if we were interupting her day. I rated the "service" 1 but that's only because it wouldn't let me choose zero!!! Its a nice place but definitely needs to be updated. We won't go back and we won't recommend it to anyone else.

Not what we expected
By mihai l, 8/19/07
Just returned from our (what was supposed to be) two days/ nights stay at the Wilcox house. The grounds were breathtaking, the water view and side garden spectacular!!! The house was charming, old and kept essentially clean. We were in Colonel's and Julian's room- cute, but really showing its age. The highly praised hot tub is basically just a square jetted tub, only this one had nice cobwebs on the bottom. We traveled with my mother and our four year old girl, and we checked prior to making the reservation if the hosts had any issues with our daughter's age, and were told no. Well, folks with kids, do NOT believe a word they are saying!! The hosts are not at all forward about this issue, they just want you to book the room in low season. These people don't like kids, don' want to have anything to do with kids, and they behave as if kids were little monsters ( don't look them in the eye, maybe they'll go away ) From the very first moment of our stay there, they acted fairly annoyed, they were not friendly, just merely tolerant of us, so we really did not see the praised " hospitality " quoted on this review board. In fact, after dealing with their annoyed attitude for one night, we've decided to leave, despite paying for the whole two-( we booked two rooms :one for my husband and I, the other for my mother and my little girl , so the final bill was pretty steep) When we left, the owner( Cecilia ) did not even blink, not one question, but felt compelled to mention that she is " not mad " . Mad at whom????!! Of course she was not mad, she was happy!!! She got payed in full, including 18% service charge for dinner!! Not even one attempt to compensate us for the inconvenience, they simply did not care!! We should have been the ones to be mad, I think, given the service and the fact that we had to cut our trip short so that we can avoid feeling like intruders... Bottom line: if you have small children and like warm and friendly hosts, skip Wilcox House. Your child will be bored to tears, and there is a good chance you will be too.You get ten times better service and even better views in any bed and breakfast in Hawaii, for example. We will never return.
