We booked the NEW log cabin a week prior to our visit. The day before our stay, we received a phone call stating that there was a mix-up in the booking; therefor, we could not have the use of the NEW log cabin for the night. We were offered a two bedroom suite that we accepted. Upon arrival, when we opened the door and walked into a bed. We discovered that the suite was OLD, POOR condition, and FILTHY. For example, the carpets were spotted, worn and dirty. Cob webs attachted from the ceiling to the air-conditioner. (which there was one air-conditioner to cool two bedrooms) When looking at the bathroom the appearance was disgusting. The four of us knew immediately were not showering the next morning. In addition, guest in the second bedroom could not exit the without walking through the other bedroom. After contemplating for one hour, we decided we couldn't possibly sleep there comfortably. We spoke about our concerns of the suite to Brett, the manager, and asked for a refund. Brett told us that it was too late even though it was before the usual three o'clock check in time. He stated that he needed to 'stripped down' the suite even though we didn't touch anything in the room. He said by law he could not give us our money back because he couldn't rent it out again for the night. In our opinion, a good businessman with good business ethics would have refunded our money to satisfy a future potential customer. Inspection by Michigan Health State Officials is well overdue.
Great space for large group but the whole place needs a serious scrub down and update. From broken kitchen drawers, ripped wall paper, stained carpet and just dirty. I can see where at one time it had its charm but the website is completely misleading. It needs to be cleaned and remodeled. Bedrooms are dated and beds awful.
We stayed in one of the 4 cabins for a week on this property and it was an ok stay, but the website is a little misleading. First is the private beach that is advertised. At first we were told by the office there was no private beach and we had to go to either NB or Mich City even though a private beach is clearly listed on their flier and website. We later found out the owner actually has private beach access in his neighborhood and finally got permission from him, although he was not real happy about giving us directions at the time. So as far as the beach goes, you may get private access or you may not. The next thing is the King bed that is listed in the basement is really just 2 twins put together and if you sleep in the middle you will feel a big crease running right down the middle of your body. Those were 2 things we were not real happy about. The living room is small and only has one couch and one chair. If you have more then about 4 people, you may be sitting on the floor. The spiral staircase is not kid friendly, we had to move the couch in front to prevent the kids from falling. There is enough space between the wall and the staircase rail for a kid to fall. When we moved the couch, we found someones slipper underneath it. They evidently don't move furniture when they clean. This place is also located just feet off highway 12, which is a pretty busy highway. The pros are that it is close to new buffalo and mich city, not terribly expensive, and for the most part the owners were nice. I'd consider stayin again if no other options, but it won't be the first place i look next year.
Brett, the owner, was very nice and accommodating. The room was basic, but clean. We stayed in Room 7. The price was right for the area, $79 per night with 5% off using the coupon from their website. 3-1/2 miles from Four Winds Casino and 9 miles from Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana. Just minutes from the beach and shopping in downtown New Buffalo.
If you want to make a trip to the casino or the beaches but do it on a budget, then I would recommend Grand Beach.
One note, if you like big fluffy bath towels bring your own.
