Great Holiday

We'd never been to Portugal before. We booked online and couldn't have been happier with the Prainha Clube. We were self-catering and although the maids were not meant to clean the kitchen they often did.
The apartment was clean and comfortable - the air-conditioning was a great plus - the pool by the apartments was clean and often empty - due to a beautiful beach, I think. However the swimming pool at the top of the complex, which over looked the Atlantic - salt water pool and all beds on grass - was amazing - the only thing is you are charged for beds €7.00 . I felt this was too expensive and wasn't advertised, they seem to wait until your settled then would come over and ask for the money. Most people just put their towels on the grass - just as good.
Alvor itself is a lovely litttle town and food is great. You must try 'steak on a stone' at Bourganvilla Restaurant. Mourisco Bar is a does great Cocktails and fantastic music, they guys are very friendly.
Nearer to the Prainha is a Restaurant called Atlantida - you have to book a day in advance - but it's well worth it - the food is superb - couldn't fault it and the view of the beach and see is amazing.
Negative is the on-site supermarket - it's so expensive at least 50% more expensive then the local big supermarkets - the bus stops right outside the hotel so it's no hassle to go to the proper supermarket. Plus the booze is the cheapest there -more so than at the airport.
All in all - a great place to stay and a great country.
