Desoto Beach Hotel, Tybee Island

When the staff at the Desoto is busy NOT cleaning the rooms or keeping their customers somewhat happy, they are online, sending fake positive reviews to tripadvisor. This is the WORST HOTEL IN THE WORLD. The staff is so rude. The rooms are filthy. Please don't expose yourself to this.

We booked this room for 8 days. We booked the room with the direct ocean front view. Trouble was they neglected to wash the glass on the patio door so the view was through dirt. Upon checkin the bedspread had a blood stain on it and they had no replacement so they did give us a brand new blanket. The pillows on the bed are something from the Dollar Store, one also had blood stains, and they always had an odor about them even after we bought Lysol and sprayed them. The linens are worn (you can see right through the pillowcases and washcloths, the couch upholstery is getting thread bare on the arms, the door to the room was coming loose from its hinges so it dragged across the floor when you opened it, the a/c-heater unit had globs of dust chunks that came out of it when you turned it on, the room had a musty odor to it, the carpet and floor tile always had a "sticky" feel to them. This hotel has outside corridors so it was exceptionally noisy. Apparently they also do not have in house security because on a Friday night at 3:00AM a group decided to crash the pool (which is right on the otherside of the wall on the ocean front rooms) and the noise echoes throughout the facility. Parking is fine if you drive nothing bigger than a Honda Fit. You are also allowed only one car per room and don't think you can park on the street because the entire island is metered no matter where you are, even grass strips on the side of a vacant lot. This hotel is in dire need of a complete remodel job. We were here the end of Oct so it was "off season" and the room cost $1200 and was no way no how worth that price. I couldn't imagine paying "in season" rates for this place. The woman at the reception desk was very helpful with restaurant recommendations.

The hotel was great. Very clean updated staff was great. My husband and I did not like Tybee Island and will not go back. But if you like that sort of thing and you like Tybee then this is the right Hotel.

We loved everything about the Desoto the room,staff ,pool ,ocean It was all great. We will go back their.

Great place to stay. comfortable beds. clean and updated. great shower. lots of hot water. We did not have a beach front room. Nice pool area and some chairs on beach. Good breakfst bar. I would stay again. Only thing is it is far from main part of town.

The staff and facilities were great. We stayed a week and would have loved to have stayed longer. Unfortunately, we had to go back to the real world of work. We will be making plans in the next couple of months to return next summer. If you ever go to the Desota Beach Hotel, you won't want to stay anywhere else.

The staff was ok, but the view was of the parking lot - and all the other guests stared right into our room - we had a small view of the ocean - and we paid top dollar for the stay! Parking is very limited - and no we won't be going back!

...just returned from our third stay at the DeSoto and it was the best yet....the new manager has made a distinctive difference...service was great, room was excellent and everyone on staff was cooperative and made us feel at home...we already made our reservation for 2008...if you haven't been there yet, you're missing a true Tybee experience. The first time we stayed we didn't know what to expect from the hotel and made reservations in the only room available. The stay was nice, the location good. It is on the beach and the pool was clean and uncrowded. The 2nd time we stayed we knew the layout of the hotel and we booked far in advance. They offered us an oceanview room (at additional cost). Since the shape of the hotel is a bit like a square, we knew that there is only 1 side that has a view of the ocean. When they showed us our room, we were nowhere near the ocean. We had a whole other "arm" of the building plus the parking lot and pool in the way of our "oceanview". The best view we had was of the parking lot. Also, the room location was noisy because the door opened onto a balcony 1 floor above the lobby. They did NOTHING to help us out. We were intentionally mislead and the stay was unpleasant. We are going down the street to the Ocean Plaza next time!

We spent 3 nights at the Desoto Hotel on Tybee Islad. We would definitely recommend this hotel for your next stay. The location is great...so close to the beach. I will definitely stay here again. Customer service was great!
