Rude front dest manager-way overrated and I live in Guatemala City

This hotel looks nice on the brochure and the web, but rooms are old, stale, and not in good repair. Our air conditioner was broken the entire time, which in Guatemala City (where we are living) is not a problem but since temperatures were up past 97F during our stay in Tikal, it made for a very uncomfortable stay. Our water was rusty and orange. The hotel was nearly empty, but would not allow us to check out a bit late, when our shuttle was due to arrive, even when we offered to pay for a later check out. Food is low average, the pool is NOT clean. The staff was lovely, except for Erik at the front desk who flatly refused to allow us a late checkout in an empty hotel and with an ill 1 year old. We ended up paying for a room so we could have 2 extra hours for our 1 year old to sleep. The hotel was still empty when we left, so I don't know why for a fee we could not have kept 1 room (we had 3 rooms for 4 people). He (Erik) also refused to give me his card or name, until we insisted 4 different times, both in Spanish and English. The ride to the park at Tikal is 45 minutes with half of that on unpaved road. The hotel was only worth it in the sense we got to explore the ruins. We would never go back--please don't confuse this with the Westin Camino Real in Guatemala City which is beautiful. This is not a Westin Property-it used to be. A big thumbs down for a run down, poorly maintained property.
