Nice hotel - not so nice customer service
Reading the review from the person who stayed the same week as I did, I'm surprised that we had such a different experience with the customer service. Maybe they were just busy and we got them at a bad time...
My family and I stayed at this hotel three nights. The lobby is nice and we were greeted with fresh baked cookies. The hotel was clean and the rooms were a decent size. They have a great continental breakfast that includes waffles, danishes, fruit, bagels, OJ, coffee, and cereals, but the breakfast area has very limited seating available. They also provide a public computer with internet access which was also located in the breakfast area. Unfortunately, that computer was down when I attempted to use it 2 of the 3 days of our stay. The hotel is a block away from Pier 17 and is in a great location if your sight-seeing keeps you on that side of Manhattan. We found the location inconvenient for what was on our itinerary as we spent the majority of our time in mid and upper Manhattan. My last day at this hotel was disappointing - we had two large families in the rooms next to and across from us that were very loud late at night and then early in the evening. And... this hotel is "pet friendly" and one of our neighbors had a dog that barked for almost 2 hours non-stop! We found that the front desk hotel staff were very un-friendly and un-helpful, as if they were being put out... almost to the point of being rude. We were offered a "car" this morning to LaGuardia at $45 plus tolls. When we inquired about possibly taking a cab - we were told that with all the traffic because of the weekend and the additional tolls to LaGuardia - it would be cheaper to take the "car". We were to LaGuardia in 15 minutes with no traffic and no tolls to be paid. $49 later (before the tip and not the $45 we were told)... we felt mislead and felt like maybe the hotel was in "kahoots" with the "car" company. We just didn't feel like they were looking out for us.
