Description

Hotel San Gil is a very unique hotel in the Macarena sector, situated just behind the Macarena stone wall and naturally, near the famous barrio de Santa Cruz.Could not ask for a better location, it is right in the very centre of the historic centre of Seville. In Hotel San Gil most of the rooms are junior suites, suites or apartments. This is something rather unique and at the same time advantageous.Among other amenities the hotel San Gil has to offer, is the roof top pool, which will surely be a pleasant experience considering the location of the hotel and the climate. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, most of them walking distance, just ask the concierge. As for parking a car, they do have a private garage just block and a half away.Several area attractions are within walking distance, including St. Louis Church, the Cathedral, Alameda de Hercules, Isla Magica and Parlamento. Unique and beautiful guest rooms are decorated with graceful Spanish flair in a modern, sleek motif. The well-trained, friendly staff is on call to make sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing and to answer questions. The Hotel San Gil is close to many dining, shopping and entertainment venues.booking conditions for Easter and Feria de Abril:Min stay of 3 nightsCancellation policy is 30 days and 100% of the booking

We loved this hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/05
My husband, two children and I spent 3 nights in this hotel and we very much enjoyed it. Yes it is old, but it had a charm about it. We walked to the older section of town, sometimes two or three times a day. I don't remember it taking more than 10 to 15 minutes to get it, but then we enjoyed everything along the way, the little shops, churches, neighborhoods. We never felt threatened to take our children through and very much enjoyed it. We walked across town the opposite direction one night to flamenco dancing and didn't return until after midnight. Once more, we felt safe and enjoyed this experience very much. It was a great way to visit this wonderful city - I would love to return some day. Susan H

A gem of a place
By MrPC, 10/2/05
I don't know what the first reviewers are talking about. The rooms were spotless and the only smell was that of the orange trees in the courtyard. It is a beautiful place in a charming and wonderful neighborhood. Walking through these narrow wonderful streets was a treat in of itself. It is 5 minute walk from Alameida de Hercules, 15 minute from San Franciisco square and 20 minutes from Alcazar and the Cathedral. My wife and I timed it as we walked. Also you can grab the bus that stops one block from the hotel and for 1 euro be downtown in 5 minutes. The breakfast is good solid buffet far from mediocre Would stay there in a heart beat. I agree with the last reviewer that this probably is not for people who are looking for the spa or resort treatment. It also has a roof top pool BTW.

We enjoyed the staff and the room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/14/05
My wife and I stayed at the San Gil and enjoyed it very much. We differ completely from the honeymooners who gave it a terrible review. Perhaps we are much older, so we don't mind walking through a city we've never visited before, nor did we dislike the breakfasts which were more than adequate. The staff was always helpful and pleasant, the room comfortable, the courtyard lovely, and the birds a delight. We're Chicagoans who've been to France, Italy, England, Scotland, Norway, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic, so we are not neophytes. Perhaps we're not spoiled either. Just an older generation's perspective

Mixed Blessings
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/16/04
Loved the foyer and the friendly staff. I looked forward to staying in this old place, but was disappointed to stay in the modern section, which is larger than the main building. Good sized beds although the modern building meant you could hear the screeching of chairs and stiletto heels above you. The birds in the tree in the courtyard drove us mad in the morning and early evening - so noisy! Certain seasonal habits perhaps? Location is generally good, although a good walk to get to the old quarter. A distance from the Cathedral.

Hotel San Gil was TERRIBLE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/04
My husband and I booked this place for three nights for our honeymoon. It was so awful that we left a day early. Would have left earlier than that if we were able to get a room on a Saturday night somewhere else. The photos show NOTHING that actually looks like the hotel. The curtains in the room were old and torn, the room smelled like rug cleaner and ammonia, and the only charming part of the hotel is the lobby. I will say that the staff was very accommodating once they saw how upset and disappointed we were. The breakfast was mediocre. Lousy location too- all the way across town. About a 45-minute walk to most of the sites. We switched our reservation for the last night to a hotel with a very long name--I think it was Las Casas del Rey de la Baeza. It was more expensive, but worth every penny. We would stay there again in a second. Our friend had recommended it and it really saved the day. Rooftop pool and everything, fabulous breakfast, lovely staff. Seriously--check out this place or other places before you book the San Gil. We actually wrote to the publisher of a guidebook to tell them how bad our stay was. We've never done that before.
