Good and Bad things
The Goldmoor Inn is extremely quiet and peaceful, except for trains going by all night long.If the wind is blowing your way they are loud. But one gets used to them.
Grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
Our first night was in the "Log cabin". When we walked through the door. It smelled like pine and cedar, which I enjoyed. After settling in, we noticed it was dirty. The carpeting was really stained, like animals had peed on it. And the bathroom smelled like dirty feet.
It wasn't dusted very good at all. Also, we had a huge problem with flies on everything, and in our face constantly..
The air condition was very loud and noisy. There were hairs in the hot tub and the water took forever to go down.In the morning some standing water was still there.
The decor was very cute, and the breakfast we had was super delicious.
Finally I tried to get wireless connection on my computer. But could not get a signal. I asked at the desk and she said that happens sometimes in the cabins and cottages. But I was welcome to come in the hotel and sit in the dining room, if I wanted. That's Not what I wanted to do. But, to be fair, there were storms around, so maybe that was the problem..
Our second night we stayed in the" French Cottage". This was delightful! The cottage is huge!!! It reminded us of our home in Arizona .All the walls are painted white and it has a vaulted ceilings. It looked so bright and clean in there. We were very happy after coming from the cabin. It has a nice kitchen, pretty bathroom with heated towel racks and a small screened in porch in the back. The decorating job was wonderful.
But there again the carpeting on the porch was filthy too.Like tons of drinks had been spilled and stained the carpeting.
The bed was nice and comfortable.
The breakfast wasn't as good as the night before. It was some kind of egg and ham supreme, but it had way too much cheese in it. It was too rich too even eat.Neither I, or my daughter ate any of it.
The hot tub was clean, and we enjoined it immensely. But once again the water went down extremely slow. We think they have a plumbing issue ..
I could Not get a wireless signal once again..
The cottage has central air so it was nice and quiet.(except for the trains which you get used to.) I would definitely stay here again if I returned.
The last night, we stayed in Coventry Suite. It was waaaay too dark like a dungeon. Even though we were on the main floor it felt like we were in the basement. The bed was HORRIBLE. You sank into it and could hardly get out.Plus, it was lumpy. I had a backache from it the next morning. Because it had a very heavy canopy it sagged down low and blocked out all the air . We were sweating even with the air on. Did not sleep well at all.
This was the worse room for us. The coffee maker was broken . We did report it and the lady at the desk made us a pot of coffee which was very nice. The hot tub was huge but very old. It had hard water stains on it. We did not even use it. The screened in porch was really tiny and not enjoyable.
I would say this definitely was an OLD room.
The people at the Goldmoor were all EXTREMELY nice. The town of Galena is wonderful with many interesting shops and historic places to visit. It's super clean . There are many restaurants to eat at but beware they are all very expensive. You might want to take a nice trolley ride around the city and see all the wonderful Historic places..It was very interesting.
One more thing. The Goldmoor Inn of Galena web site is misleading with some of their photos. So do not go by this. The picture of the lobby is not anything like we actually saw in Galena. Nor were the pictures of the Coventry Suite.
We still give this a 4 star because we had a relaxing enjoyable vacation. If your looking for peace and quiet this is the place. (except for the trains, but one gets used to them.)
