Affordable hotel on Upper West Side
By Steven Brisbey, 7/1/08
We stumbled upon this hotel by accident and were happy we did! The hotel is very clean & even smells good! We stayed there for 2 nights and would definitely consider going back. The room was a good size and included a microwave & small frig. The beds were very firm but comfortable. Staff was helpful in recommending food & entertainment in the area. Subway was less than 2 blocks away.

Duchess Alberta Canada
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/24/08
For 6 days Hotel Newton took the best care of 22 students (Jr. and Senior) and 16 adults. We were a Drama and Art group from a little town of Duchess Alberta Canada and our first time in New York City. We had a excellant tour guide, Minna Scharff, who showed us all of the highlights. Many of us are anxious to return and I am sure that we will be staying at Hotel Newton....THANK YOU

I loved it
By Hadassah, 11/16/07
It was clean and things were well maintained. I found the staff to be helpful and the bed to be very comfortable. Too bad its so expensive. I wish they had more discounts to make it more affordable.

GREAT value!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/07
I booked this hotel when I took my mother to New York a couple of years ago, and have recommended it ever since. The staff was attentive and friendly, rooms were clean and well kept, and it's one of the best bargains I've ever seen. Though it's removed a quite a bit from the downtown attractions, the subway stop is only down the block, and the 1, 3, and 9 trains at the station took us everywhere we wanted to go. There's a wonderful cafe next door that serves huge breakfasts at low prices, and a drug store on the other side, if you want to grab anything else. And as I recall there's a good sushi place around the corner. I'll stay here anytime I go back to NYC.

Exceptional Value for the Money
By Kurt, 7/15/07
From the very first call to make reservations, to check out, this hotel was everything we had hoped it would be, and more! The front desk staff was ALWAYS helpful, with anything from suggesting a good place to eat, to help with the subway, to arranging a ride for us to the airport on our final day, they went well above and beyond the call of duty! The room was bigger than I thought, with flat screen TV, microwave and fridge, which was perfect for our family of 4. The room was cleaned spotlessly every day, fresh towels, I really can't say enough about this place. The diner downstairs had great service and great food. The hotel is a 2 blocks from the subway, making everything very accesible. The not-in-times-square location appealed to us, as we wanted more of a flavor of how New Yorkers live, and this was smack in a residential area, close to everything from bagels to diners to grocery stores, even a movie theater about 10 blocks away. We will absolutely return to New York City and absolutely return to the Newton. Congratulations to the staff...the did an outstanding job.

A Delightful Bargain!
By waterfingers, 11/17/06
This place was great! Features include large rooms, little refrigerator to put your snacks in, cute building w/neat elevator & cool stairs, & the BEST restaurant/diner-style place, w/any food you could want, next door. I'd definitely stay here again, as soon as I can afford another trip to New York. =) My friend & I won a trip (really!) from a magazine for our first journey to NYC & rec'd three nights stay free at a "fancy" hotel in town. We couldn't afford to extend our stay at that higher-priced hotel, so we booked an additional three nights at this Hotel Newton. We were totally lucky! The so-called luxury hotel (Hotel Maritime) was nice overall but room was extremely small & included a complementary pair of white panties in the corner, just covered by the drapes (i wish i made this up - but i did not), which I presume, were left by last tenants. Hotel Newton had a much lower price tag & was way superior. Some people might say area of town was "less desirable" - but I think it was fun & had no problems w/anyone. As a matter of fact, my whole trip to NYC was filled w/great experiences & very welcoming people. I hope to return very soon!

Outstanding for the handicapped Tourist
By nancyr, 8/8/05
I've been to many places but believe me, the Newton Hotel is extraordinary fantastic!!!! I would never go to any other Hotel in NYC. The personnel is polite, and go beyond any barrier to make the handicapped feel at home. I stayed there with my handicapped daughter from 8/4/05 to 8/7/05. The room was totally accessible. They even gave us a shower chair for the bathroom. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone with a physical limitation, I assure you that you will love it and will never go any where else. Buses are near and take you everywhere you want to go. I want to thank the Newton Hotel personnel for their hospitality and dedication to their visitors. Keep up the good work. We will always be your clients!

Upper West Side bargain
By LeftCoastBlue, 5/26/05
If you're on a budget or just like the Upper West Side, the Newton is quite a bargain, especially in the winter when you can get a double room for under $100. The hotel isn't much to look at, but the rooms are clean and currently being renovated. Everything works fine, though I would wish for high speed Internet access and another elevator. There are nearby markets, drug stores, a fitness center, and restaurants on the same block, as well as a subway stop where you can catch the 2/3 express train (two stops to Times Square) or the local. It's close to Central Park, too. Call the hotel directly for the best rates. With 5 subway stops between the Time-Warner Center and the hotel, all of the Upper West Side is easily reached. It's also the closest decent hotel for Columbia University. I always buy a day or week pass on the subway. I don't spend much time in hotel rooms when I am in New York City, and prefer to spend my money on good restaurants, theater, museums, and other attractions. Unless you catch them on a busy Spring or Fall weekend when the rates are at their highest, the Newton gives you excellent value.
