Two February Nights At Hotel
By ,
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for the following reasons: poor quality mattress; poor quality sheets; musty smell in the room. If you do stay here, know that you can't cash a travellers' cheque, even a small one, if you aren't paying for your room or extra services with it. The casino does not cash them either. Location is a good one. Room was clean. Doesn't compare to other 4-star hotels; not even close. Needs renovations.

great for the price
By ,
I traveled to the Dominican Republic in April 2008 and stayed at this hotel. The staff is outstanding. I don't know why people say they have an attitute because they don't. The hotel is very secure and staff are always ready to assist you with bags, if you need a taxi, if you need to exchange money, etc. The concierge (Carmen) couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Most of the staff speak english but keep in mind that you are in another country that speaks a different language and if you are not ok with that you should just stay in the USA. My room was very clean and neat. I ordered room service a couple of times and they were very prompt. My room was cleaned daily. The sheets were changed, garbage was taken and the mini bar was replenished. The hall carpets are vacuumed daily. I'm not sure why they didn't vacuum my room during my stay but it was clean anyway. They have a business center in which you can use the computers to do stuff online (the first 15 minutes are free and after that it's $12US per hour). The hotel is situated in front of the ocean and we got an ocean view room which I really recommend. In the bathroom they have a shower cap, sewing kit, lotion, soap and bath wash. The minibar is stocked with bottled water, local canned beer, mini bottles of rum, redbull and gatoraid. On the top it has Advil, candybars, nuts, asprin, razors and cigarettes. One of the closets has a coffee machine with cups but no coffee and a safe. The other has hangers, an iron and an ironing board. The Tv has local channels and CNN in english. You can order more channels right from the TV and play nintendo games for 35 pesos ($1US dollar) per hour. There are two telephones, one on your night stand and the other on the desk. You can make local calls for 10 pesos (.31US cents) a miniute. You can also make longdistance calls for a charge. By the business center there is an ATM which will give you pesos only. The hotel has a casino and a beautiful pool area with music and a bar. It also has a Spa and exercise room by the pool area. At night, bands sing in the lobby area. In the lobby area their are a couple of gift shops. Loved the hotel and will be returning soon!

I agree-Never Again!
By ,
I have written other reviews about this hotel and it doesn't seem to help. The first time I stayed at this hotel, I wrote, that the experience was nice and the location was excellent, however, the food was horrible and the cleanliness was just not there. I had to call the front desk for them to come and change the sheets, this is after 2 days by the way. One day, I don't really care, but a coupe of days, that's rediculous. It is a real shame, that I wrote my first review a couple of years ago and nothing has absolutely changed. I was there last June and the food was still bad, and the rooms were dirty. This is a very good looking Hotel, whomever the manager is should be doing a better job. I went back to DR last October and stayed at the Melia. This hotel is very nice, it is a bit more expensive, but the service is excellent and the rooms very clean. Whomever likes the food from V Centenario has very poor taste or doesn't know hoow to cook, in which case, I agree, the food is good. Anyways, I am planning on going back to DR in February, but WILL NOT stay at this hotel, I refuse to pay my money (work very hard for) in a place that doesn't cater to my needs or makes an attempt to do it. Please pay attention to the negative reviews, it will help you tremendously.

Never again
By ,
I have stayed at the Intercontinental more than once. The staff was generally kind, and tried to be helpful, but the hotel just needs an overhaul in rooms (dingy, musty, not well-lit, old) and upgrading in service (15 minute check-ins). The bed clothes smell like mold and I feel like I have to work much too hard to get anything the way it should be to begin with. The cleaning staff keep it very clean. The pool is decent. But overall, I would absolutely not consider staying here again or recommending this hotel to anyone.

We really enjoyed our stay.
By ,
The service was excellent, and the people awesome. The waitstaff was top notch and very courteous. My only disklike is the jacuzzi had no heat....But it was hot outside enough for the pool anyways. Enough people speak english at the hotel for things to run smoothly. Their gift shop held some unique items. Our room had a great view of the ocean and the pool. My blow dryer worked in the outlet. I know I reported a lot of random stuff but overall it was a great hotel. Take all the advice you can get from the front desk and enjoy being a tourist.

this hotel is the WORST
By ,
i stay at this hotel with our group march '06 and I can tell you the service here is the worst I have seen. The staff is very unfriendly and they all seem to have a major attitude problem. Go to another hotel.

Pretty and calm

I enjoyed my stay and I felt that the staff and hotel management were more than accomodating and the food was very good. Wait staff provided great service and friendly attitudes.

Cheap...but pay for what you get
By ,
Place is ok if you want something cheap. Service was not great and rooms are old and worn. I stay at the Brand new Hilton now..more expensive but well worth the extra dollars. Great service and NEW rooms

The Best in the DR
By ,
Nice and safe hotel with Excellent service. Big room and the hotel that was within easy walking distance of the colonial zone and Jaraguar casino. Easy taxi ride to anywhere you would want to go. The breakfast buffet was very good; very pleasant staff. The pool deck was clean as was the pool and they have a pool side bar.
