Excellent location and very spacious!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/19/08
This hotel is on the upper west side. They are converted apartments and a perfect set up for our family(wife, myself and two kids under ten years old). Five blocks from Central park and across the street from Fairway market which is extraordinary(the famous Zabars market is 4 blocks north as well). Several blocks to the subway(don't be afraid to use the subways-easy to navigate once you understand the grid). Great diner for breakfast two blocks north-The Broadway Diner... plus innumerable others. We simply enjoyed walking all over and would strongly recommend Central Park(for kids especially), Museum of Natural History(Dinosaurs), Empire State Building, and the two day double decker bus tours that allow you to get off and on. I was raised in New York and still love to go on these buses. We also rented a car and went to Brooklyn for a day. New York is also the safest I have found it in many years-we took the subway right up thru the Bronx to Yankee Stadium. Will return to Beacon(only problem is that some people live there full time and cooking smells can be at times a little.......also, rooms not fully up to date) Still--really great arrangement overall. Second visit to the Beacon. The employees were all excellent.

beautiful beacon!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/23/07
myself and my husband and 2 kids stayed in the Beacon Hotel for 7 nights in Feb 07. we were amazed at the size of the "rooms" compared to other hotels we've stayed in in Europe this was more like an apartment! it was cleaned everyday by such lovely staff who always had a smile and greeting for you. we ate 3 times in the Viand Cafe next door which was extremely reasonable for a family of 4 ($62 for meal and desserts and drinks). the food is fantastic real home-cooked!great food market across street which is handy for those late evening munchies!I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone with families as its very reasonably priced.

Everything was good but the bed....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/04/06
The bed was okay but fundamentally that is why I get a hotel room and it was the cheapest mattress I have slept on in a hotel that cost more than $40...and it was WAY more than $40 the nights I was there. That said, it had a kitchenette; it was clean; there were lots of good places to eat...especially H&H Bagel and Gray's Papaya...and the staff was friendly. I slept fine so I guess I shouldn't complain but it was definitely NOT lavishly appointed.

Unfortunately, we used to get rooms for $100-120 per night.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/05/05
Loved its location across from 24-hour Fairway market. Wish its prices were still as low as they were when we "discovered" it. Great for Foodies; Zabars is just up the street. And for Christmas presents.

Overall very good in the cheap category
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/05
I was in a nice big room, clean with bath. Old fashioned but much better than those impersonal hotels meeting organisers usually send you to.

I won't go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/05
The room safe wouldn't open; the maid cleaned our room but didn't replace our glasses or plates; the pull-out couch would not open or close once opened; the edges of the couch were torn and tattered. My overall assesment is that I have stayed at better and been to worse(but left). At least when we brought attention to these problems someone was sent to our room with a crowbar. And finally we were given a 25 percent discount on one night .....so they at least did try to make some effort to compensate us for any inconvenience we had. They also did have free use of a wheel chair for our entire weekend. Overall I think we could have gotten a better value for our money.

I loved Beacon Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/05
After making several reservations at different hotels and cancelling, we finally decided to stick with the Beacon Hotel. We had a one bedroom suite for 4 people. We can't stop talking about our trip to NYC. The Beacon Hotel was a big part of our good memories. It is directly across the street from the fabulous Fairway grocery store. We ate at a WONDERFUL dive called Big Nick's several times. We also enjoyed going to Zabars and H & H Bagels. Lots of places are opened 24 hours. Our view was fabulous. Our room faced Broadway and our sleep wasn't disrupted by street noise. Our suite was bigger than it looked on the internet pictures which was a surprise and we were not in the least bit disappointed. In fact, we can't wait to get back to NYC, the Upper Westside and the Beacon Hotel!

I'll definetly return!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/08/05
I loved it because it's right in front of Zabaars which is great to buy some food then cook it in the kitchenette (in every suite). It's close to this great restaurant (SUSHI) called OBune, i highly recomend u to go there too. (try the crab salad!!) Well, back to the hotel, it's just GREAT!! Good internet service and great location. It's nice & clean, and an ok price. I LOVE it and i'll definetly go back!!!
