Located in the city*s National Register Historic District, the regal Windsor Hotel is the crown-jewel of beautiful Americus, Georgia. Originally built in 1892, the Windsor was fashioned after the finest hosteliers of late 19th century Europe. The hotel incorporates a pleasantly eclectic mix of architectural elements, noticed especially in the turret and round tower, and in the unusual array of window styles. The five-story castle-like building occupies nearly an entire city block in historic downtown Americus, and was built as a destination for northern hunters and vacationers looking for the mild winters of the south. A total of 8-million dollars has since 1991 been invested in different restoration projects that have revitalized the 53 guest rooms--each with high ceilings, ceiling fans, plantation shutters and high speed Internet service--as well as the round tower suites, balconies and the golden-oak-trimmed, three-story atrium lobby. Palms, antique chandeliers and wicker rockers characterize the hotel*s nostalgic blend of comfort and beauty. The hotel*s location--just 9 miles from Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains and Andersonville National Historic Site--puts you within easy reach to all of the area*s attractions. On-site amenities are the full-service Windsor Spa, boutique, beauty salon, gift shop, visitor center and the convivial Floyd*s Pub.

5 reviews for Windsor Hotel, Americus
Wonderful Hotel
By Kyle, 10/16/09
This is a lovely old hotel, about 120 yrs old. My wife and I spotted it as we were driving up from Florida. Nevermind those horrible reviews, nothing about our experience could be considered negative in the least. Absolutely amazing wood work throughout the hotel. The lobby is by far the most beautiful I have ever seen - a three story atrium with woodwork climbing all the way to the top. The staff exceeded expectations of "southern hospitality." They were extremely helpful and very courteous. The food was excellent and the bar was great - a veranda is attached to the bar with several rocking chairs - overlooking the main street in town. For the price we paid, this was one of the best deals I have ever received from a hotel.

Loved it!
By Linda, 01/11/09
After visiting Andersonville we stayed at the Windsor. If you are looking for "new and modern" don't bother. If you want to go back in time and appreciate history this place is great. The staff was great. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We have stayed in places for double the money that were not near as clean and comfortable. You can sit on the veranda for a laid back time or visit the Pub for entertainment. The hotel is the center of the city so you can walk around the city without driving. We enjoyed it and want to go back!

What A Terrible Dissapointment
By Seasoned Traveler, 10/01/08
My wife and I love to travel throughout SE Locations to regional cities. We'd read of the Windosr Hotel and it's story. Unfortunately, we had also heard and read in travel magazines many negative things about the hotel. Being adventuorus and willing to try most places once, we planned an overnight trip to Amerius and stay at The Windsor. To our dismay every negative thing we'd heard was true, and 10 times worse than we could have imagined. We felt uncomfortable as there did not seem to be but 2-3 room occupied in the hotel. Talk about a 'ghost place'! We had a confirmed reservations stating $109 for the room, which we were expecting. When we arrived at the desk we were told the rooms were now about 1/2 of what they used to charge since business was so bad now and our rate was reduced to $69. Still way too much for this type accommodations. When we got to the room we found dirty sheets on the beds. When we finally found a housekeeper, she told us abruptly that 'they did not always change the sheets every day since they did not have enough to go around'! That's a statement I'd never heard in any hotel/motel anywhere. We almost fell over. By then we were tired and decided to stay the evening out after an evening housekeeper finally came and changed the beds, after we'd call the desk numerous times with no answer. But even when she chanegd the beds she did this reluctantly, saying it was 'not her job to change or clean rooms', only the lobby was assigned to her. Why the lobby we didn't know. We never saw anyone sitting in there, only a few passing through. And, they were all college kids goint to the hotel bar. It was clear the bar catered only to college students due to the continuous noise and loud music well into the night. We weren't expecting the best but we never anticipated the worst being this bad. The city is charming though and well preserved as an historic but working city. It is worth a drive out of the way to see the city, but find someplace else to stay. There are other nice hotel/motels in town...most heing chains where they have to maintain their standards or Cordele (30 min. drive) has nearly every chain represented, and most are new. Also, we had to hang one of the blankets on the inside of our room door. The wooden panels in the door were coming apart and full of cracks and anyone walking in the hall could easily see inside the room! Terrible!

would NOT recommend it/would NEVER go back
By thomamericus, 09/23/08
The hotel is way over rated. The rooms are filthy, furniture, bedding, carpet, lamp shades all worn out. It's obvious the place in not kept up to standards. The only thing it has is it's architecture. The Dining Room is lunchroom type food at high $$$. It is infested with bugs and has a bad odor in rooms. Someone needs to really make a change in this hotel--it could be an interesting place, but is killed by all it's shortcomings.
