Off the beaten path lies a historic wonder
I was driving north through Georgia and passed by this architechural wonder. The Windsor Hotel sits in the middle of small town Americus, Georgia, and really seems to be the hub of activity for this area. Service and staff were excellent. When you walk in the lobby, it is amazing. Three-story open atrium lobby, with original golden oak, and centuries old marble flooring. Room price was reasonable for the area, not too expensive. I asked for a room on the third floor, as I had read this property was haunted! Alas, no visitors in the middle of the night, but still fun! Room was nice and good-sized, with nice bathroom, large ceilings, ceiling fans, wireless internet and tv. What struck me was the unique shutters on all windows. Was told these were "plantation-styled". The owners really seem to take care in the restoration and upkeep of this place. Like mentioned, all staff was excellent, but I wanted to personally point out the front desk manager Kurt. He was a wealth of information, and very very pleasant. Seemed to be training a new staff member, but even their interaction was refreshing to see. He really made us feel welcome and at home, even though just for a night. All in all, this is a great place to stop - it is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it.
