Budget Inn, La Puente

The outside of this place looks fabulous, but once you've paid for your overly priced room that's when the stress starts. The rooms are dirty but they claim they've cleaned it on a regular basis. Some of their bathrooms smells like a gas station's bathroom and their tubs are filthy. I know this because I've had my room changed several times. I wanted a non-smoking room and they gave me a smoking room. And when they gave me a smoking room, it was a non-smoking room. And the worker speaks good understandable English, so this smoking and non-smoking room situation should not have been a mistake. Their room prices change frequently also. Their word doesn't count for anything. They told us on the phone that the rooms would be $49 for 2 beds, but when we got there they said $75 for 2 beds and $49 for one bed. Then when we decided to take the one bed they told us $55. Their rooms are overly priced for visitors outside the LA area. For the prices that they ask for, you can stay elsewhere for a better rate, better service, and cleanliness of rooms. So tourists, beware of this place. When we demanded a full refund, we had to fight for this refund. At first they wouldn't give us a refund, but instead charge us $65 for a 2 bed room. Speaking to the owner of this place was even more horrible. He wouldn't give us our money back even though we never even stayed in the room for more than 5 minutes. His word meant nothing at all. Like his wife who works there, he changes his prices too and his were more expensive than hers. He did show us a room that he claimed was clean and that's where his family stays. Again, this room was better than the others that we've seen, but the bathroom was still filthy. And trust me, black rings in the tub, that's filthy. And they claim they clean it every day. Hmm. . . . If you clean it everyday, then these black rings wouldn't appear, right? Doing a little research by asking locals while waiting for the owner, I found out that this place only costs $30 to rent for one night. After all the arguing we got a full refund. That's only because the owner didn't want us to make a scene in front of a new customer and I think there was an inspector there too. Before leaving this place he also made very racists comments to us. This was a blood pressure raising experience that no tourists should experience on their vacation. You don't have to take my word for it, but you've been warned.
