Got our room down graded
By JTJW, 09/09/09
We booked a king-size bed room on hotels.com, but when we check in they told us they run out of the room and give us a pull-down full-size bed room while we still paid the same price (over $200 one night). The overnight valet parking was $32.00, very pricy. They also charge for the internet access $9.95. The view was great. The room was OK. Good location. Really not happy with our room being down graded. Shouldn't let us book the room if they aren't gonna keep it for us.

What a HUGE rip-off!
By Mia, 09/07/09
OK, this hotel has great location, and that is about the only thing positive I can say here. It is over priced, $6 for a "complimentary" bottle of water, and then no consession machines to make matters worse in the whole hotel, what a rip off. It is like living at a movie theatre right? The valet is a rip off as well, self parking is $22 a night, and valet is $32 a night plus tip of course. Unfortunately, you will need to hit a convenience store prior to arrival and store things in the tiny fridge in your room (if it can all fit). The lobby is REALLY nice, but it promises style and class you will not receive in your room. You can literally stay at a motel 6 and get a better, cleaner, more up to date and more well equipped room for less than 25% of the price! Customer service was a joke, if you stand up by the front desk for anything more than 5 minutes you can catch an ear full from fellow customers who are unhappy with the situation they too are in, getting duped to believe they were getting some sort of value or service for the inflated price they have payed. I watched at least four customers ahead of me escelate into full blown arguements with customer care reps before I was helped over their un-clean or ill equipped rooms. When I posed my complaint I received a discount service for the breakfast buffet, but it was so over priced, I actually think I still paid too much in the end. Bottom line is this: The hotel architecture is great from the outside and lobby view points, but the rooms are in serious need of updating and refurbishing. The services are all a cash cow and the total lack of conssessions or convenience stores located on the property just tells you they acknowledge that they are leaving you little choice and economy and they want you to spend all of your money for little value with them. It is sad that in today's economy that there are businesses like this one who completely go after every cent they can squeeze from your pockets while providing you as little as possible of a return on your money. The Marriot next door is a little cheaper but at least there are convenient stores and conssessions inside the hotel. They are a better value just don't use their valet service for parking. I wouldnt :(
By Kris, 05/28/09
The hotel it's self is beautiful and the location is awesome with great views of the bay and city. Other than that I cannot say much positive about the hotel. The restaurants are pricey and the food is not that great. They have a snack bar but it closes at 7pm and the prices are crazy (20oz soda 3 dollars) if you do not have a car you will walk a pretty good distance for a convenient store. If you are coming for vacation and have the money to blow the Seaside Village is right behind the hotel but is a tourist trap and very, very pricey. For a burger, fries and soda I ended up shelling out 20 bux. The hotel has no vending machines so stock up on drinks before you come. On a positive note the rooms do have a fridge and microwave. Parking is a nightmare for guests that you may want to have meet you. Eight dollars the first hour and 4 dollars every additional. Valet is a 32 dollar charge plus tip. if you are a guest parking is OK with a 4-5 story parking garage. As long as you are staying in the hotel you will not have to pay to park. Don't waste your money on this hotel with a going rate over 150.00 a night. instead take your money and go for something a bit cheaper but still downtown and enjoy your money and vacation. I WISH I DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay Here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/13/09
We enjoyed a clean room and the staff is very attentive and really go out of their way to please. You can walk out of the hotel right into Seaport Village (food, shopping, entertainment, sight seeing etc...). My family would stay here again because of the good experience we had this time. Two thumbs up for this hotel!

For the money choose another place
By New Year Party, 03/01/09
I stayed at the "Grand" Hyatt 2/21 - 2/26. The only thing grand about this location is the Lobby. The lobby is BEAUTIFUL. That's it. The problem is, you don't sleep in the lobby. The rooms need a major upgrade. I requested for a microwave and fridge in my room. The microwave was delivered once I arrived and the attendant did not have any place to put it. He was going to put it on the floor next to my bed. I told him that would NOT work so he placed it on the desk. I was in complete shock. I had to work on a desk with a microwave. Hmmm, that was NOT acceptable. Then there was the curtains. I guess the curtains were loose but they fixed it by place visible blue tape on it. VERY tacky to say the least. I am SO happy I packed my Lysol. I needed it for the carpets and the comforter. There was just this odor that wouldn’t go away. It had nothing to do with the housekeeper. The rooms are just worn. I'm disgusted that so much money was spent on a place like this. In today's economy, we don't have money to throw away on mess. And that's EXACTLY what happened. During my stay, I spoke with numerous individual that had issues with their room. If this Hyatt wants to continue to be called Grand, they need to do an upgrade.

VERY Disappointed in Manchester Hyatt
By Micky, 01/21/09
Outside & lobby beautiful but the room was mediocre at best. We were told we had to REQUEST fresh towels everyday or they wouldn't replace because they were trying to cut costs. And the hotel charges for just about everything. $4.50 for bottled water. No courtesey internet. We saw the same half empty wine glass on a table by the elevator for 2 days. We will NOT be staying at this hotel again. I was very disappointed. For the price they charge, there are too many other choices in SD to stay here. Yes, it is within walking distance to the convention center but so are a dozen other hotels.

Positive Feedback
By Susan, 01/05/09
The location is great (within walking distance of several good tourist areas). Lobby is gorgeous. The bar area is a neat place to hang out. Clean rooms with comfortable beds. We had a great view. However, you can hear your neighbors. A crying baby woke us several times during the night. Front desk staff was not that friendly. But overall, this hotel was very nice. They had a rate special going on, & we got a good deal for the money. I would stay here again.

Nice hotel
By MGima, 11/11/08
Good: Pool with 2 jacuzzi's with phone service. Room are not the best but nice. Bed is plush, view of the bay/gas lamp district, excellent! My girlfriend and I had couple of drinks overlooking the city. Location close to everything. Bad: Room service food, better off going to one of hundreds of places close by(10 min. walk). Did not eat at any of the restaurants though. Pool a little cold. $ for parking Overall, a nice stay. Get a good deal so it'll be worth it!

Great Hotel, Little pricey
By lauren, 10/17/08
This is a great hotel to stay at if you're going to a convention in San Diego -- it's only a 5 minute walk from the convention center. Also, it is an easy walk (10 minutes) from the Gaslamp district, with lots of bars and restaurants. The service was great. Everyone was very nice and attentive. And there is a great view from the hotel overlooking the ocean. The only downside is that it's a little pricey, but i guess that due to the convenience of it's location, and the ocean view.

Beautiful hotel. BUT......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/08
The hotel was beautiful and was in a great location. Close to everything. Seaport Village was right behind the hotel. Gaslamp Quarter and Horton Plaza were within walking distance. Staff were courteous and we got a pretty good rate for being Auto Club members. We actually got an upgrade for $25 more and had a great view of the Marina. The only thing was that the walls are kind of thin. I heard a man snoring from the other room and a band was playing outside until about 3 am, which didn't give me a good night sleep. Another thing was when we returned to our room from a walk around seaport village, we found other people's luggages and other personal belongings in our room. My husband and I freaked out and thought someone had been in our room. After calling the front desk, it turned out that the Bell service had just delivered someone else's things in our room by mistake and that no one else had been in our room. The staff was very helpful in trying to figure out the mix-up, but I wouldn't want my things to be lost like that with the potential of someone else looking through my things.
