Be Careful with the remote
By ROMANZ, 01/04/10
They hotel is nice. The Patio Bar is great in the evening. However be careful with the TV Remote or you may end up with an unwanted 17.23 charge. The largest buttons on the top where the ON/OFF normally is on most remotes is the Menu/Movie rental . In the dark when leaving your room you may inadvetantly end up renting a movie. Good luck having it taken off. Rude and kind of tuff luck attitude.

Absolutely no customer service
By melissa, 09/14/09
The rooms were described as 2 room 2 double beds and a pullout sofa. There were 5 of us in this tiny suite!! The restroom was tiny..toilet barely flushed, sink sprayed you when you turned it on! The security was terrible, while relaxing in front of hotels on couched enjoing the fire, we had our stuff stolen by teenagers from the campground across the street, and nothing was done by the hotel staff!!!! This place was not worth the price for sure, Have had much better experience at Best Westerns

A bit disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/09
As was already mentioned, the suites here are 'tiny'. There is only an armoire (no closet) and the bathroom is tiny. For what they are charging, I would expect a hotel on the beach. This hotel is in a center median, with access to the beach through a campground (only one way into the hotel and one way out). The beach at Doheny is rocky as well - I would only recommend this hotel for couples without kids (tiny pool and $8 drinks)

Weekend in Dana Point
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/08
The rooms are very small, bathroom had little counterspace (just room for a sink), there was no place to hang towels in the bathroom. I travel a lot for work and am usually greeted by professional and friendly front desk agents, that was not the case at the this hotel. I found the help somewhat defensive and with a "take it or leave it" attitude. There is an additional charge ($22 per day) for parking, however it was very difficult for find an open parking space in their lot. I paid extra for a oceanview room and found the view marginal, nothing to get excited about. As other reviewers have mentioned the overall location of the hotel is not good (near busy roads and freeways, no easy access to the bearch.). I will not stay at this hotel again. There are plenty of alternatives in the same area.

Management is missing an opportunity
By Barry, 06/03/08
This is an average hotel in a very good location across the highway from the Pacific (not actually ocean front). As with most Double Tree Suites, you are provided with two rooms - which is a plus, but the suite is extremely narrow and cramped. However, the space is well planned out (almost like a motor home) and the room is clean. My only issue with this hotel was the lack of access to the 4th floor bar/patio area that is by far the best feature of the hotel. The patio bar includes probably twenty tables and offers a great view overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I stayed at this hotel on Memorial Day and was told that management had decided to close the patio bar for the day due to low occupancy (hard to believe on a holiday weekend). Not only was the bar closed, but management would not even permit guests to sit on the patio and enjoy the view. Instead, we were directed to an outdoor patio that had a great view of the freeway. What a waste of a great feature.

Great Hotel Just steps to beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/08
This place is steps to Doheny beach, I came for a business conference; brought the kids and wife. They enjoyed the beach while I was in meetings, had a great time. Rooms are large for what you would expect, Our room had an ocean view and a balcony/patio that was like having an extra room. Good place if you want to mix business with family. We will hold a conference there again. Service was excellent.

Not bad for the area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/08
The hotel is strangely located between three roadways. I would suggest arriving in the daylight to find the entrance. The staff was young but friendly and helpful. At the front desk, when we inquired about a store they printed directions for us. The lobby has three kiosks with computers so you don't have to pay to get internet connection in your room. But you also don't have any privacy in the lobby. The warm cookie at check in was yummy. The pool is very small, but was heated and the hotel wasn't crowded so our kids had it just about to themselves. The rooms were a little cramped because they split one typical sized room in two. Two double beds were small, but the kids could go into the other "room" to watch their own tv shows giving us some space in the "bed" room. We probably didn't need the extra room but it worked out well for us. Had we been there without kids it seemed a unnecessary. The bathroom was clean, but a bit small. The exercise room was nice and very unused, some free weights, one bench, two treadmills and two other cardio machines, a sauna and massage services. The hotel restaurant was what you'd expect, ok quality at high prices. The train nearby could be heard as late as 11pm but after that I didn't hear it. It did sound like a 747 landing on the adjacent freeway. The walls are a bit thin, we heard doors slam and the people walking around upstairs. I requested a quiet room and for the most part it was quiet. The $20/night for self-parking was a bit steep and there wasn't any street parking. For families, the price is right, the location was good and we would return.

Very average. Likely won't retturn
By gary, 07/04/07
As another reviewer said, this hotel is not on the beach. You have to cross PCH and a campground to get to the beach. It's not that far, but it would be difficult with kids or lugging a board and some gear. First impression: we were assigned a room that hadn't been cleaned, the next room had a broken TV, the Amtrak rumbles by the south side of the property, smallish pool and the staff were very friendly, but did not seem to be managed particularly well. It seemed as if it was everyone's first day on the job. We ultimately checked out after one day and stayed up in Laguna Beach at a five star hotel right on the beach for about $100 more a night.

nice place though not "on" the beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/06
perfectly decent hotel with some semi-luxury touches. rooms are pretty big with separate sitting area, but bathroom a little cramped. very clean -- they are remodeling and and my room seemed like it had been spruced up pretty recently. but note that it's across PCH from the doheny campground, no direct route to the beach -- if you're looking for a hotel "on" the beach this isn't it. though i think most of the hotels in this area are across the PCH. parking is $13 a day.

nice location
By tommyn, 09/22/05
first impression of this hotel was like "wow". looks very good from the outside. stepped into the hotel, it seemed the hotel was a little old (carpets, furniture, etc). getting to the hotel room was like a maze and far from the elevator.. they upgraded my room and once i got into the room, i was like "wow"...the beds were comfortable, pillows were great, the views were unbelievable, room service was not bad.. and it turned out that i like the hotel a lot..i really enjoyed my stay, it was really nice
