Unclean and Unsafe
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/05
I was shocked by the mildew smell, fire code violations, and misrepresentations made by the staff and owners of the motel. First, I arrived at 2:00 a.m. and despite my fatigue my first response to the room was, "what a dump!" The window treatments (I hesitate to call them "curtains") were broken, and the room reeked of mildew. The smoke detector, in our "non-smoking" room was covered with a plastic bag (so that smokers could smoke undetected) and contained, viola! an ashtray, no doubt so that I could conveniently both violate basic safety codes and ruin my health at the same time. My husband and I returned to our room, on what should have been our second night, only to find an inch of filthy water in the bathtub, a bathroom that had not been cleaned, and a bed that had not even been made. I reported the same to the staff, who appeared concerned, but did nothing to address the problem I quickly called the new Holiday Inn Express on Monroe, and checked out.
I should also point out that although the rooms are advertised as containing "dataports," they in fact supply nothing more than ordinary phone jacks. This motel is a firetrap, a mold-infested health hazard, and I strongly recommend that the Rochester Department of Health conduct a quick investigation. I should also mention that both me and my husband had flea bites after we left the hotel. This Motel 6 accomodates pets which, while admirable, requires a level of maintenance that this paricular hotel does not appear to be able to keep up.
