28 reviews for Family Inns of America, Gatlinburg
Stayed there several times!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/09
I have stayed at the Family Inn in Gatlinburg for several years in a role and when my husband, my son and I go to Tennessee we usually go on the weekends and stay in a cabin from Cabins USA for a couple of nights then we go to this motel, I really like it, we stay there every time we go there and it has a great location you can walk to all the stores, the staff is great, the rooms are fine, the pool was always as clean as can be expected, they can't stand right over top of it to keep all the bugs out, i have a pool and i no how hard that would be, but my family really likes this hotel and we stay there every year, most of the time twice a year and we are going back in Sept. if the lords will. So no matter what you read on here this is a great hotel.

DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL
By Gail, 07/10/09
THE FIRST THING, THE STAFF WAS NOT FRIENDLY, THE SWIMMING POOL HAD A LOT OF BUGS IN IT AND WHEN WE COMPLAINED THE BOY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE TREES. MY HUSBAND TOLD HIM THE SKIMMER SHOULD BE ON AND HE SAID IT WAS, BUT IT WAS NOT. THE NEXT THING THE HOT TUB WAS 104 DEGREES TOO HOT. THE FINAL AND MOST IMPORTANT THEY CHARGED ME FOR OUR STAY PLUS THEY CHARGED ME FOR MY DEPOSIT AND DID NOT REIMBURSE ME. THEY SAID THEY ONLY CHARGED THE DEPOSIT FOR PEOPLE THAT DIDN'T SHOW UP. WE SHOWED UP AND I GOT CHARGED FOR THE ROOM PLUS DEPOSIT. I AM STILL TRYING TO GET THEM TO REIMBURSE ME MY DEPOSIT.

ok
By Ryno, 07/05/09
Wasn't sure what to expect when I read the reviews before our trip.We got there and our 2 burner stove one of them did not work. They were able to move us to one that worked.Sounded like they don't want to spend the money to upgrade. They have so many Family Inns maybe to many to keep up on all the maintaince that it takes. Our stay was fine. The pool was very nice.I never had to even test the water for tempature. It was a heated pool.By reading the other reviews again I say maybe they just have too many hotels to keep up with.Cut the numbers down and maybe the ones that are open will be taken care of better.Best advise is to come in with low expectations and keep cool.Hopefully you will get one of the good ones

Disgusting!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/02/09
The rooms are gross! The walls have water damage. There is mold/mildew and the place smells awful. The carpet is old, stained, greasy, and wet in spots. The furniture looks like they pulled it out of a dump. The front desk says the owner refuses to put any money into the hotel. It shows...What a dump! They also charge your credit card for your entire stay when you check in and they have a "no refunds" policy...even if you leave early.

By AlbertS, 06/20/09
I'm not sure where to start, it was horrible...elevator was dirty and smelled of smoke, pool and pool area was nasty, NO internet when it was advertised, which is false advertisement, couldn't leave because no refunds, ..............and that's just the beginning. That was the 1st and the last time at a family inn for me............

wasn't impressed
By Karen, 05/12/09
We checkd into our king suite, we found electric plug in the middle of the floor between the living room area and BR area, it stuck up high from the floor and was litterly disasimbled, after my husbend put the cover back on it, we hit our toe, or tripped on it several times during our stay. The ele. plug behind the TV in the LR,(tried to recharge our cell phone) the plug was loose and would cut on and off the TV when you tried to plug the in the cell .phone The "kitchen " had no dishes, pots, pans or silverware. There was a OLD fridge, that was broken under the sink, a "new" dorm size fridge was next to the fireplace. When you sat on the balcony to enjoy the creek (or the view of the hotel across the creek) brown rusty water would drop on your head from the balcony above, which no one was on. The free bfast was little debbie snack cakes (2 varities) milk, coffee and OJ oh yeah..cheerios and fruit loops. not a very tasty bfast. I was worried about a fire b/c of the ele problems, The beds were old and uncomfortable. The good thing..the lady at the office was nice, so we didn't complain. But we will not go back.

nice place for the proce
By Kristina, 04/20/09
I recently stayed in a jacuzzi suite room. The water pressure wasn't that great so it took about 45 minutes to fill up. Also the water was either really hot or really cold. The room itself was ok for the price. It was a spacious room but could have used a few upgrades. As advertised, the rooms are right on the river, however, the balconies look right at another hotel so there isnt much of a view. At night it's very noisey due to the river. This hotel is on the very end of the gatlinburg strip. I think it would be beneficial to get a room closer to everything and it probably wouldnt cost more. The staff at this hotel were very helpful. Don't count on having the continental breakfast as your full meal. All that was there were some oatmeal pies and packaged doughnuts. There is a hot tub that is open 24/7 at this hotel. It is really nice and VERY big! it's almost the size of a small pool. Overall this hotel is ok. if you want a "nice" room on a budget, this is the place to stay.

Would find somewhere else to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/09
We booked a 2 night stay after looking at the reviews. This is not a great place to stay. It's located almost 2 blocks off the very south end of Gatlinburg. The room had a funny odor. The toilet wouldn't flush (I had to "fix" it twice). The tub wouldn't drain. Advertised WiFi was almost non-existent (one bar with a very low weak signal .. almost unusable). They have one wireless antenna in the lobby. If your room is at the other end of the motel, forget wireless internet. They said they usually only had trouble with people on the 5th and 6th floors (we were on the 2nd and the next to last room at the end away from the office/lobby. Would not stay there again and cannot recommend it.

We will stay there again.
By glentaylor, 10/21/08
I will agree with Danny. I can vouch for room # 304. After booking I was concerned as I read through the reviews. Maybe the reviews are old. We went there and were pleasantly surprised. The location was awesome, the people were great and the hotel itself was in overall good shape. It isn't the Marriot, but for the price and location, I would have to give it a big thumbs up. The only glitch was that priceline didn't communicate with the inn very well, Priceline charged me up front and never sent the motel confirmation of my payment. However, upon check in the attendant instantly handed me two keys and said "go on and get settled in and if I have any questions I will call you later" She never had to call back and at the end of my stay checked out in about 10 seconds. We will stay here again.

Not nearly as bad as some reviews I read
By Danny R, 10/13/08
While I can't vouch for all the rooms at this hotel, room 606 is under review here. Front desk very friendly and check in and check out were quick and easy. The room was well appointed and everything worked. NO smell or odors of any kind and the floors were clean...I walked around with white socks on in the room and they did not get dirty. The bathroom was large, had plenty of towels, and everything worked. Also plenty of hot water. It looked as if the bath had new wallpaper and ceilings installed recently. The view from the balcony looks directly at the Bearskin Lodge next door but that didn't matter. Was at the end of the "strip" at stoplight 10 but in a very quiet location. Easy walking distance to all attractions in Gatlinburg or can hop on the Trolly and go anywhere. Another nice feature is the pool and hot tub are open 24 hours a day. All in all, it was a very nice hotel and I would stay there again when in Gatlinburg.
