OK for an overnight stay – but better still, stay elsewhere

Attractive hotel in pleasant riverside location on a busy road. A short stroll into Port Launay, or a brisk half hour walk into Chateaulin.
Once you venture inside the Bon Accueil the disappointment may begin to set in. A constant stream of passing trade in August pulled up at the place, read the menu and had a look around, but most, if not all then drove off.
We booked a standard double room with shower for a four night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. We thought we had probably been given their worst room. There seemed to be very few other guests. The room was small and shabby, and the shower room was not too pleasant. The window looked into the car park and a very high shrubby bank. There were only net curtains, no proper curtains. When the window was opened there was a very unpleasant smell, which could have had something to do with the broken sewer pipe at ground level. The television has a range of French channels including soft pornography. On the plus side the shower worked and the bed was reasonably comfortable.
Breakfast is taken in an uninspiring room at the rear. It was pretty awful – do not drink the coffee from the big vat. The orange juice was nice. We only ate the croissants as nothing else looked appetising, but if you arrive too late there will be none left.
The dining room looks nice, but we did not go inside.
The bar is probably only intended for use by restaurant guests prior to their meal. We had to ask to be served, ask for lights to be put on, and were asked to leave at half past ten as they were closing. Drink prices are not displayed, the beer is poor quality, the spirits are not measured, and the charge is required to be put on your room bill. The prices charged on departure are not itemised and worthy of any top class hotel – which the Bon Accueil is not.
The couple who run this hotel have no interest in providing good service and a pleasant holiday, just extracting as much money out of you as possible, with minimum effort and expenditure.
Beware of booking online as you may well be overcharged, may not like your accommodation and will be told that you have already paid in advance in full. This is not actually true – but they will insist that you pay for all nights booked, even if you depart early; we considered it better to pay not to stay for the full duration than spoil our holiday.
