The \"Real\" First Inn in Pagosa Springs

The Staff
The first Inn has a great staff of folks to help you feel at home, friendly and helpful.
The room
Prior to entering the room the smell of cigarette smoke permeated the hallway.
Upon entering our room we noticed that the general appearance was clean… That is until we found pubic hairs behind the bathroom door after my wife was scared to death by a spider and beetle crwling on the floor.
The room was hot so we turned on the A/C and thought that a 747 had just taken off from the parking lot only to notice that is was indeed the A/C. It did drown out the noise of the many Harley Davison’s that rumbled by the bedroom window though.
I think we could have slept with that “white noise” except that the sheets continually came off of the VERY hard and quite small bed during the night.
When I fell out of the bed because my feet were entangled in the “fitted” sheet, I decided to take advantage of the “breakfast bar”.
Breakfast bar
When we stumbled into the advertised breakfast bar from a disastrous nights sleep we noticed that breakfast was indeed a “bar”. It consisted of a “bar” of: No doughnuts or cereal, a few homemade “Jiffy muffins” in cupcake cups of a rusty tin and a juice machine that was posted as not working… the buzzing noise we heard were the flies around what we thought was a puddle of either chocolate or… blood.
The Location
The First Inn is conveniently located for some fishing as it is near two very large and muddy ponds that they say has fish in them. We did discovered that they are a great breeding ground for mosquitoes though. Also the well advertised San Juan River freely flows behind these ponds for some good old fashioned “combat fishing”… if you come well armed.
The Value
Considering the $114 “AAA discounted price” for this unique experience, we will be staying in the Holiday Inn express for our future stays in Pagosa Springs, thank you.
Did I say that the staff was friendly?
