Dated and not very clean
The location is great, and although it isn't directly on the beach, the quick walk across the road is nothing. The problem is that the beach is barren and it's up to you to drag along your beach chairs and umbrellas. If you don't mind that, the gulf waters were warm and pretty calm. We chose to wear beach shoes in the water though, but all and all it was a good beach.
The resort is small, only 15 units. The pool wasn't huge, but there was always lots of room. With only 15 units it was never crowded. We thought it was just fine, but some people complained that the pool wasn't clean. Small, well used towels were provided at the pool, but they weren't always available.
There's a BBQ area with gas BBQs, which was very nice. Once again, it was not used much, so it was always available.
There was lots of wildlife around, tropical birds and manatees. It was really a pleasure to see all the wonders of nature. Unfortunately, all 4 people in our party got terrible bug bites from head to toe. I hoped they were from small bugs outside, but someone thought they may have been from bugs inside. I hope not. However, there was no disputing the HUGE cockroaches we found on our last day. We couldn't report them, because the office shut early that day, so we packed up and left. When we got home I sent them an e-mail telling them about the cockroaches. Rather than acknowledge them, they said that they were not coakroaches, rather "Palmetto" bugs. Look it up on the internet - they are cockroaches. If they don't acknowledge them, they can't fix the problem.
The Manager was very inflexible about the 4:00 check in time. Don't arrive early.
Great area, and we'll probably go back, but not to the Longboat Bay Club.
