The only thing i would suggest to you guys is making sure you book it online at SweetHotelDeals. Net I did a bunch of searching for hotel prices, and that site seems to have the lowest prices all around

WOWZERS
By ,
This place is incredible! Although tucked a little out of the way, it is worth the time to get there. Everything was great; rooms staff and the spa! With a jogging trail on the river and a great place to dine and sip wine next door. I know we'll be staying there again

NIce location, falls short on service
By ,
Great location, reasonably priced. Room service menu is limited but our order was above average in quality. Wi-Fi network is spotty at best, basically not a service they should advertise, unless they upgrade to something more reliable. Pillows below the quality one would expect from this caliber of hotel. Great bathrooms, even though did not stay in a suite. Nice river view. Feng shui of the room left much to be desired. Town car to the city was not available. Taxi took too long to get there, so we drove to the city in our car. Front-desk staff were friendly, but seemed inexperienced in customer service skills expected at an upscale hotel. Room was missing an iron. It took them 30 minutes to bring one.

Pros Outweigh Cons
By ,
The Avalon is a beautifully decorated, and quiet hotel. The rooms look like home and the bathrooms are magnificent with the large, glassed-in showers. The decor of the room we stayed in was tasteful and not at all like a hotel. Room size ran a little small but adequate, and had a nice balcony looking out on the Willamette River. The bed quality and pillows were TOP-NOTCH. I have a bad back and my husband also had medical problems, but our rest was restful with no tossing and turning. And we never had to call for pillows (my husband sleeps with three) because there were plenty. The A/C works well, although was a little noisy, and the lamps attached to the walls on either side of the bed were quite flimsy and grew really hot. The CD player on the nightstand actually had a melt mark on it when we got there so we moved it over to the desk. We did inform the front desk of the issue. Room service and spa services were pricey. Unfortunately, we called room service and nothing we wanted was available-apparently our room had an outdated menu. However, the creamed spinach was the best we've ever tasted. The hotel is a short distance from OHSU and in spite of traffic, it was easy to find. All in all, a very pleasant experience. We will return to this hotel and would recommend it to others. There is a $15.00 extra charge to park in their parking lot, but no other parking appears to be available.

Outstanding Dinner Menu
By ,
The gorgeous, peaceful view, and the fact that this was away from the hub-bub, yet still close in, were the main draws for my wife and I. And the hotel's restaurant was an unexpected delight. This was hardly mundane, run-of-the mill corporate hotel fare. This was the kind of carefully crafted cuisine, done with the kind of passion, that Portland is known nationwide for. Another reviewer noted the menu was "too exotic" for their taste. That's hard to imagine. But there will always be those that like to stick with the familiar fare that they can find anywhere. Frankly, if that's your taste it's better off to steer clear of hotel restaurants and stick with the chains-- They have it down to a science. And it makes no sense for a hotel restaurant to attempt to compete with these mega chains. Especially in a town with a reputation for being "foodie heaven."

Nothing compares in Portland!
By ,
The decor and architecture are very clean and modern. The views of the river from our suite were amazing. The staff in every area of the hotel, spa and restaurant were polished, smart, efficient and super-friendly. I used the fitness club, men's steam room and sauna while my wife got her hair cut and pedicure. Then we had a couples massage together and everything was perfect. We enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast but the dinner menu was a little bit exotic for our tastes. We went to the Portland City Grill and it was fantastic.

The best place to stay in Portland
By ,
This place is a gem. The service is top notch, the bed was super comfortable and the bathrooms was pure luxury. The location is excellent. It's not "downtown" but the hotel offers a free shuttle service anywhere in Portland. Regardless, you are ON the Willamette River and the beautiful walking path is super for morning or evening walks. The spa in awesome and the food was good too. I travel quite a bit for work and this is one place I can not wait to go back to. It's the best.
