$3,500 a week you got to be kidding
My wife booked a room for four, 2 adults and 2 little girls6 and 10 for a week and was quoted $280 including tax. We thought that was fair enough and reserved the studio room. We live in palm coast and after a long day of moving we arrive at micro-hell to check in and hit the showers. We were greeted by a nice young girl who said "there was no reservation" My wife and I said no big deal we will just check in now right?............wrong!! The nice girl said it would be $380 + another $100 for a room deposit. a week before she ran the numbers and asked for a credit card. So now were at $480 BEFORE tax and fees. My wife and I both looked at each other, both of us exhausted and stinky not to mention my wife has MS and its hard for her to walk so reluctantly we asked to speed to the manager. Of coarse he wasn't there. We had to bend her arm to call him a home. while she was attempting to get him on the phone we handed over our credit card and id's. We had no more fight in us. Well, she did get a hold of the Manager named "Joe" we asked to speak to this Joe and he refused. By this time Our paperwork was complete and ready to sign. Allot more than what we were quoted but it would be for only 1 week then we would never stay there again. So anyway the girl lays down the paper work and we don't believe what were seeing. $3,500 for the same room for the same duration. My wife blew a fuse and I tried to reason with the nice half witted girl.
We finally stepped into our room at the inflated rate of $380 + $100 deposit. We continually attempted to contact elusive Joe. We never saw him until the last day out walking his dog. I ran to the frond deck and asked to se elusive Joe and the front desk girl said he had left for the day I wanted to inform him my wife has M.S. and was at a doctors appointment that was made a month ago with her M.S. specialist and was running a little late and she has our car so we couldn't check out till 2:30 that afternoon. 2:31 the phone rang in the room I answered the phone hoping it was my wife saying she on her way. It turned out to be the desk girl telling us Joe said to leave the room now in a threatening tone. My 2 daughters and I had everything ready to go but nowhere to take it. I understand the time policy and would have paid for an extra day bur my wife carries all our cash and cards like most husbands and wife that have been married more than 15 years. So here we go wheeling our stuff out to a shady place on the street. Remember we were there for a week with 4 people so we had about 4 trips to the street. The second trip my wife pulls up and looks at me in shock and starts to cry. That's my family's experience with Microtel. As a retired LAPD officer The made me feel uncomfortable from the beginning. Non of the staff were friendly that I cam in contact with other than the maid I saw once for 2 minutes. If there was 1 bright spot I would have to say there was ample parking. Day or night the parking lot was pretty much empty which explains why Elusive Joe was In such a hurry to get my family out on the street.
BTW: One of the reasons we didn't get up and walk out from the very start was because we assumed 90% of all the hotels in Palm Coast reside on Old Kings road would be competitively priced. We drove Next door from micro hell to SLEEP INN 386-446-8180 and were pleasantly surprised. Not only did they give us the Initial $280 a week including tax, They have a hot tub. they honor the do not disturb sign, they have computers in the rooms, rooms are 100% nicer, more of a home feeling and the staff is some of the most pleasant people I have ever met. There TV's are much better and bigger.
God Bless
