Nice Place, but Rude Employee Ruined The Stay
My friend and I traveled to Clackamas for a wedding shower. We got a great deal on Priceline at the Staybridge, and I was excited after reading the online reviews about this place, especially the free cookies at the front desk. It's in a great location near PDX, in a quiet neighborhood. When we checked in, sadly there were no cookies out. We needed help with our luggage, but there were no carts available. I found this strange, considering the lobby was deserted at 9:00pm. A helpful employee, Ms Bacon assisted us with the doors even though she was off duty headed home as we hauled luggage to our room. Kudos to you, Ms Bacon!
The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. The kitchenette was a big plus. Breakfast in the morning was good, but they ran out of waffle batter at 8:45am and milk.(breakfast ends at 9:30am) I waited, but they were never replenished during my breakfast sitting. My friend ate breakfast earlier than I did, and the oatmeal for her was like soup and the brown sugar was hard as a rock. The breakfast attendant was very nice and brought out new brown sugar for her.
Upon check out, we called the front desk asking for a luggage cart. We were told my Madeline that they were "missing" and there was nothing that could be done. Again, we hauled our cumbersome luggage out manually. The front desk clerk, Madeline did not offer to help when she saw me struggling, even though again, the lobby was empty. I asked her if she could hold the door for me, and she let out an annoyed sigh under her breath and grudgingly complied. After loading the bags in my vehicle, I came back in to check out and get a receipt. Madeline told me she could NOT give me a receipt because I had used Priceline. I've never had a problem getting a receipt in any other hotel. Then I noticed two trays full of cookies and happily exclaimed that I was excited about the cookies being there, because we were looking forward to them at check in. I asked if I could have one. Madeline looked at me and said "I think we have one extra." and hesitantly handed me one. (The trays had about at LEAST a couple dozen each) I took it said thank you, then politely asked if I could have a 2nd one for my roommate/friend. She replied "NO". I was flabbergasted. There were dozens of them on the trays, there was no cookie shortage. I thought she was joking. I said incredulously "You're kidding, right?" She snottily replied "No I'm not. You paid with Priceline." I could not believe it. I asked again "Are you serious?" and she said "Yes." I said after all we've been through with the luggage last night and this morning, and you can't give away a second cookie?" She again refused. These were tiny cookies that maybe cost them 10 cents each, and we were treated like we second class citizens and unworthy of any customer service.
So Staybridge Suites, you may have saved 10 cents on your cookie, but you left a bad taste in my mouth, you have lost a future customer, and I will make sure everyone knows about the rude treatment by your employee.
