Very disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/21/08
The outside and the lobby of the hotel look very nice. We got the most expensive double suite room in the hotel and the room was in terrible shape. The room was badly in need of maintenance. The kitchen area was suppose to be stocked with plates, cups, and utensils; it had none. The floor was filthy dirty and covered with stains. The couch was covered with stains and had been sewed up in several places where it had been torn a big flap of material covered in staples was hanging off of one of the arms. The big chair looked like something bought from a 1970's flea market and was in equally bad shape. All of the furniture was covered with nicks and deep scratches. The lock on the sliding glass door to the 5 foot by 3 foot balcony would not lock. One of the lamps in the living room made a scary electric noise when you turned it on and off. In the bedroom there were two holes in the wall where the doors had smashed against the wall. The telephone in the bedroom did not work and was missing the plate that covered the top of it exposing the electronics inside. Another strange thing was the switch to turn the lights on it the bedroom was on a wall out in the living room. In the bathroom the faucet in the sink leaked all over the countertop when ever it was turned on and I had to wrap a towel around it to keep everything on the counter from getting wet. The towels were very hard and scratchy. The front desk staff was clueless and not helpful at all. I asked for a travel guide (since there was no material at all of the area in the room) and the lady at the front desk did not know what a travel guide was. It was a very disappointing stay when I paid top price for their “best” room. If this was their best room then I would hate to see what the rest looked like. The was a Hilton Hotel right next door and I wish I would have stayed there. This is the second Holiday Inn that I have stayed at recently that has been sub par. It seems to me like this chain better get their act together or they will soon be out of business.

Why bother complaining!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/08/07
We stayed here for 3 nights and every request we made, they failed to listen to us. I asked for my in-laws to have a room next to us, told no problem, three hours later, told they were on the third floor, reserved rollaway monthes in advance, asked for it each day, no rollaway! shower curtain pulling off wall, unable to take shower without soaking floor. hot tub closed all three days, freezing in door pool left smell on kids skin, asked for 5 towels, hand & wash, received three with no hand or wash towels. NOT worth the high price.

Definitely go back again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/06
I read a review before booking a room at the Holiday Inn Select and I'm glad I did. The hotel, grounds and room are spotless. We weren't in Norfolk longer than 24 hours but it was a very pleasant experience. If we have business in Norfolk again, I will not hesitate to book at the Select because I will KNOW it is clean. Thanks!
