Riu Tequila All-Inclusive, Playa del Carmen

Amazing resort, the staff was fantastic, food was amazing. Just watch out for the crazy towel people- you can only get a beach towel from your hotel, not the 3 riu's across the street on the beach side

My boyfriend and I just got back from Riu Tequila last week. We spent 5 nights there and had a wonderful time. The surroundings are tropical, beautiful, and very clean. We got a room on the second floor near the back of the resort. It was always very quiet and we never had a problem with it smelling musty...at night it actually smelled like fresh flowers outside the room. The beds were hard and I would suggest bringing your own pillow. The pools were nice and the swim up bar was fun. We never had any trouble finding lounge chairs. The walk to the beach was nice and we would only take the shuttle if it happened to be there when we were ready to go. We did not have any trouble finding lounge chairs at the beach either. The staff members are extremely friendly, very hard workers, and take pride in keeping the resort looking beautiful. We toured the other Riu properties, but agreed that Riu Tequila was the nicest. The breakfast and lunch were good. I suggest eating breadkfast outside! Dinner was ok. There was a large variety every night, but everything seemed to taste and smell like the corn oil that they fry the tortillas in. Try the Banana Mama drink- it is yummy! My only complaint is that when we got there at 11 AM, we wanted to store our luggage in a locked facility since our room was not ready and they did not have a locked room. I will be going back to Riu Tequila and would suggest this resort to anyone who is traveling to Playa del Carmen.

Overall, the Riu Tequila is a great place for fun and wonderfull food. The resort staff was aways willing to please. You will not go wrong with this location as far as your dollar value. The disco was fun; however, it did get very hot in there with all the people. It is a short walk to the beach area, but not as bad as some have commented. In fact, the walk was a nice way to relax. The rooms were large, clean and well kept. The only downfall to this resort was the pool which was too cold to enjoy. The beach area is very busy and you may have to sit in the sand if you can't find a chair.... arrive early for the chairs! You have to pick a dinner time...I would suggest the late seating so you don't have to rush back from the beach to eat.

wow! the food was by far the best i have ever tasted abroad. the activities were brilliant because anyone of any ability could join in, the weather was superb and the atmosphere fantastic. you feel like royalty in the way that you are treated. everyone is cherpy and happy to help. the best bit is that you are located next to an excellent beach, situated in the jungle and still experience carribean weather. heaven on earth.

It was an interesting and enlightening experience for me. I'm not really into being treated like royalty on vacation, but this place was magnificent.It had a wonderful aura to it and the structuring(buildings, rooms, and gardening)was beautiful. The food was very good.The people that came to sell various items was a bonus. I loved your staff; they were fun to have a conversation with. It inspired me to travel, even though I know that not all places will be as pefect and beautiful as this one.

Riu Tequila offered fun for any age at a reasonable price! I took the trip with my entire family. We ranged in age from 25 to 85. We all had a blast and didn't feel like we needed to entertain one another (their fantastic staff took on this responsibility). The rooms were clean and comfortable. At 25 years old I shared a room with my 85 year old (blind)grandfather and still felt comfortable because the bathrooms and dressing rooms are separate from the rest of the room. The Tequila was child friendly, but the staff seemed to keep the children busy with great activities. We barely knew they were there. This left the parents and other adults to enjoy their vacations on a grown-up level. I highly reccommend that anyone who likes good drinks stop by the lobby bar to see Arsenio (he's the best!). I am returning to Riu Tequila this November for my brother's wedding and couldn't be happier to stay in the same place.

I stayed at the Riu Tequila in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on my Senior Week trip back in 2001. I went with just my best friend and we had the trip of a lifetime! I could not have asked for a better trip. The deal was as incredible as the resort itself. The food, service, and entertainment was top notch. I definately reccomend this resort to everyone!

you could not have asked for a better spot that was away from all of the spring breakers but close enough to excitement for those who wanted have a true vacation. the staff was awesome and the entertainment was some of the best i have ever seen. i would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to truly get away from the bustle of life

I surprised my mother with this all-inclusive vacation the first week in July 2002 and everything was wonderful, inclulding the cost of the vacation! The Riu Tequila is an absolutely beautiful resort. The staff was friendly and very gracious. The food was excellent and the bar drinks weren`t bad either. The tropical landscaping was breathtaking and the staff worked constantly to keep the grounds clean. Our room was very clean and large enough for two people and it included a mini fridge that was stocked with beer, soda, and mineral water. There is even a liquor dispenser in each of the rooms. We met so many nice people from around the world; England, Canada, Belgiun, Russia, and believe it or not, a few people from neighboring cities. You will not have a boring moment at this resort, there is daytime and nighttime entertainment,including a disco which plays American dance music. I really can`t say enough about the staff, the customer service was excellent and don`t worry if you can`t speak Spanish because the staff is multi-lingual. My mother and I visited the other Riu resorts which you are allowed to do and we both decided that the Riu Tequila was by far the best resort, especially if you enjoy fun activities and interacting with people. The Beach is located only 1 mile across the street, but you don`t have to walk, because the resort has transportation in front of the resort that runs every 5 minutes. You will not be disappointed if you chose to vacation at the Riu Tequila Beach Resort.

Just returned from this resort Jan 20/01. There were 20 people in our group and no one could find anything wrong. It is beautiful, the people friendly, the whole resort extremely clean, and the food was fabulous. Make sure you book at least one supper in the "fancy" dining room - you are treated to a spectacular meal. What can I say - I can hardly wait to go back!
