Best Value in Cortez.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/11
We stayed here on our way from OKC, Ok to Salt Lake. We were very pleasantly surprised. No frills, just a small clean place to sleep. The owner was very friendly and accompdating. They dont compete with the larger hotel chains, but the price is reflective.Great value for a place to rest overnight. Water pressure is outstanding for a hot shower.

Disappointing
By gioia, 6/27/10
It looked run down from the outside. So, we asked to look at the room before checking in. The room was dark, old and worn out. We took one look and told the lady that we were not staying. She was very polite and friendly. The room was clean, just totally run down.

Great classic motel at a reasonable price
By RobG, 12/31/09
The Tomahawk Lodge in Cortez, Colorado is highly recommended. This is a wonderful example of a well taken care of 1950s/1960s era vintage motel on main north/south highway (US 491) through town. Small, less than 30 units, but plenty of vacancy on most nights. When my wife and I stayed in July 2009 our room was clean and well maintained as was the bathroom. Good working A/C unit. The outside property was well kept, well lit at night and was overall in good shape. The owner was friendly and courteous upon check-in. The price was reasonable at around $65 per night. Check out the wonderful old Tomahawk neon sign out front - especially a sight to see after dark. Great for the road enthusiast photographer. Check out the Tomahawk on your next stop in Cortez. I think you'll be glad you did. Nice old motel for a good value - with much more character than your run-of-the-mill chain.

No need to drive any further. Stay here!
By The LoneGranger, 1/18/09
One of the first hotels I saw coming into Cortez since Shiprock, NM doesn't have any places to stay. I liked the retro look. At first I thought the rate was high something like $55. But was tired so checked in and was so glad i did. There was a Christmas tree still up and the wonderful owner was friendly. The rooms are just fine if not spartan. No hair dryer, coffee, shampoo etc. so be prepared. This place is on the highway but really not very loud. I love the pillows which are dense. The wireless works very well and I checked the local prices only to find indeed this place is the least expensive and AAA rated as well. Coffee in the lobby in the morning. I would recommend this place highly. Only complaint is shower pressure is weak.

After two weeks on the road this was absolutely the cleanest place. And hosts were wonderful and helpful. Wireless Internet worked great. Thanks for wonderfully fresh coffee in the morning.

Great place to stay
By Michael, 8/26/06
We have been going to Cortez for years and have stayed at all the hotels in town. The Best thing about the Tomahawk is it is owned be two great people that treat you as guest in there own home. You get real towels, a clean room, nice comfortable bed and great service. For the Dollar this is the best deal in the area.

Great place, great people
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/06
I was really impressed with the service level. I typically don't stay at Mom & Pop places, but when I walked in and met the owners, I felt very much obliged to stay at the Tomahawk Lodge. The rooms were very clean....much cleaner than the other chain hotels I stayed at going through the Southwest. I'd recommend staying there to anyone who wants a nice place with quality owners.

yes, the tomahawk is great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/05
just stayed at the tomahawk, the nicest, most serviceful people. big smiles, very clean rooms, quiet air conditioner, very low price (don't wait til you get to utah if going north, prices jump). it's not the ritz, but we are talking Cortez, and your other options are very tacky and much more expensive best western, motel 6, and the other usual suspects.
