Grand Shores outdated
By Mary, 11/15/09
The staff was ok. The room was very outdated. It had a full size refridgerator and a microwave on a old stand right in the same room as the beds. weird The view was good of the ocean. The garage was in the middle of the building with the room on the outside for the view. That makes sence. I was kind of creep out and looked into changing hotels but then we were busy all of the time and not in our room. The price of the room is what you got. Having the pool on the 7th floor was nice because you could see the ocean. The restruant was OLD too. We did not eat there. This place needs an overhaul.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO HERE
By timothyv, 10/15/09
This place is a joke. I am unsure of the age of this place, but it is pretty bad. Very dated and run down. Room had several areas of mold all along the ceiling....you could see where the leaks were just by looking at the repairs on the ceiling. They advertise free internet but you can not view any pages because it takes so long to load. You can get connected, but bandwith is not very strong and it is simply not usable. When we complained about it, they wanted to sell us a earthnet card for 10 bucs...that was their answer. The beds are very old and the center of the mattress is like a bowl.....like a big dip in the center. We did not stay even one night. we were there for about two hours and left to check into another hotel. Staff very unpleasent and not willing to assist with any issues. Went to use printer in business center, unable to do so.....no ink. They said they would put more ink in it but they never did. Summary.....very dated, very dirty, and just has the air of being Indian run. Do not waste your money. You will have a better stay if you stop at one of those $21 older hotels along the highway

worst vacation ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/09
From the lack of service and couteousness when we checked in to the moment we left--problems after problems!!!! We paid a premium for a 3bdrm oceanfront condo and I at least expected the appliances in the kitchen to work. Not one worked properly. The exhaust from the dryer had not been cleaned in years--didn't dry clothes--and had me worrying about fire hazards in other condos. The fridge did not cool. The freezer did not freeze. Exhaust fans in the bathrooms didn't work. The dishwasher rack was broken and fell onto the floor breaking glass on the kitchen floor. The exhaust and light over the stove did not work so cooking was a challenge. The kitchen was supposed to be equipped for a party of 8 and there were 5 plates, 4 forks, etc--ill-equipped! The hot tub was over-flowing with brown disgusting water upon our arrival making us leary of the cleanliness of other hot tubs. The toilets ran continuously and needed new flappers. There were chards of glass on the pool deck which my daughter cut her foot on. Worst of all, the staff inadvertently took my daughter's stuffed animal she has had since birth and can't sleep without and did little to find it. Constant miscommunication among the staff and short staffing issues left many of the issues unaddressed or only addressed after persistence. For three consecutive nights, fireworks started on the beach at 1030pm and rarely ended before 1am. For a hotel that markets itself as family-friendly, this seemed more like a frat house. The front desk said a security officer would handle it. Forty minutes later a security officer made his way to the beach. That being said, Myrtle beach is a beautiful area with warm swimmable water, sunshine with a gentle breeze and activities for people of all ages and interests. Unfortunately, I spent most of the week with maintenance personel and consoling my distraught daughter.

Wonderful Place To Stay
By AnjiI, 04/29/09
My stay at Grande Shores was excellent. The room was spacious and clean and had the perfect view of the beach. Very family oriented hotel and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I did have one issue...I plugged in a flar iron and the power in part of the room went off. I promptly called the front desk and asked that the breaker be reset (I work for a power co) and it was promply done without hesitation. Still it was wonderful and I will return.

We will be back again next year.
By Patricia, 02/28/09
We have been here every year for the last 4 years. We wanted and ocean front effiency apartment but when we called to make reservations all were taken, so we had gotten a ocean view room for the first night. The reservationist was able to get us an ocean view smoking the second day and we were very satisfied. We stayed for 5 days and was very satisfied. If I had to make any changes at the Grand Shores it would be that they clean there carpeting more often. The staff was very helpful and friendly. My husband is a handcap and would really like to see more handicap facilities there. We loved being able to drive up to the floor that we was staying in. Overall we will be back and would recommend it to friends and family. The price and location is perfect.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/08
We found the rooms to be very nice and clean. Up to date furniture and room amenities. Staff is very accomodating and freindly. Would recommend to my family and freinds. Rates very reasonable for Ocean Front suites. Very good and will be back!

Beautiful Hotel, but be careful.
By Mike, 11/12/08
We stayed on the fourth floor looking North. Beautiful view, fantastic two bedroom condo. Room 421. Only problem was an item missing from our luggage. It was obvious someone had been inside the suitcase. Contacted mgmt, I was told they would contact the cleaning staff. I received a call from mgmt and was told that cleaning knew nothing of the missing item. Use the room safe for all valuables. The ones that won't fit would probably be safer in your vehicles trunk.

Great place for a vacation
By Vacationer, 05/30/08
This hotel is right on the beach. It is an older resort, but has been taken very good care of. The rooms and the entire resort is quite clean and well taken care of. The pools (3) are all well maintained. The front desk staff is very helpful. The restaurant offers room service, and the food is quite good. You need not even leave the hotel complex after you check in if you don't want to. We will definately stay again. Be sure to ask for an ocean front room.

Run the other way
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/25/08
If you are looking for a place with good accomodations, clean rooms and a friendly staff, grand shores is not your place. I have seen plenty of reviews giving this place four or more stars. Perhaps these folks have lower standards or maybe they were given better rooms for one reason or another. The room I had smelled moldy, the light over the dining room table was full of bugs and dirt but the worst part of all was the rude night staff members.

Rain!
By GabbyAbbie, 04/01/08
It rained for our entire vacation, but this place had so many pools that it didn't matter. All the pools are now heated (indoor and out) - I was told this was a new thing for them, so weather doesn't really restrict you too much. I was very impressed with our accomodations - it's smaller than the photos show, but it's still nice and plenty of room. We came with another couple and got a two-bedroom condo - the other couple said that their room was very cold at night (because of the private balcony entrance in their room) and ours was sooo hot because of the insulation. The person in the room next to us was doing something wierd, like remodeling or something, at all hours of the night, but that's not really something you can hold against the hotel. One of the bathrooms was missing a plug in the tub but they replaced it in about an hour. The maid came in one day and took the "maid service requested" sign off our door and didn't clean but we called the front desk and the head of housekeeping came right up and had someone clean it. The staff is maybe overly friendly because they called at least once per day to see if everything was okay. I will definately come back here again, though. We were on the 4th floor and got to park right outside our room.
