A very fun hotel but not the best
By Dana, 12/7/08
I just returned from GOVB Nov 29-Dec 6. I went with my boyfriend are we are both ~25 years old. Our favorite part was the pool bar, it was always a lot of fun and the bartenders are great! Rooms are very clean but nothing too special, we had a nice ocean view. The beach there is nice but small and there are no waves in the ocean. There are also a lot of people trying to sell stuff but you get used to it and that is something that you will get just about anywhere you go. The food is sub-par. The only good resturaunt was the brazilian steakhouse (blackband only) I also enjoyed the sushi bar for lunch. That and the snack bar for lunch both take a while though so expect to wait to get your food. We had to go outside of the resort for actual mexican food which was a bit disappointing. It is in a great location. We walked to cocgo bongo and the city at night easy 10 min walk. You can also catch the bus right out front that takes you just about everywhere. We went downtown to a mexican place la parilla that I would definitely suggest going to for real mexican food. We also did an excursion to Isla Mujeres which was a snorkeling booze cruise type thing. Very fun and worth our money. We had great weather most of the time it was only cloudy 1-2 days and rained once at night. I give the entertainment staff props because they entertained throughout the day/night at the pool. There is a show every night which is great but very loud and you can hear it from the rooms so don't expect to get to sleep before 11! And another thing is that the maids are up and about cleaning at 7am and you can hear EVERYTHING in the rooms so if you are a light sleeper you will probably be up by 730 in the morning. Overall we had an extremely fun trip at this hotel but again there are definitely better ones out there. We drank our money's worth for sure! If anyone has any questions about the hotel feel free to email! DanaG85@gmail.com

It is a SO SO hotel!
By AmyL, 8/27/08
We went on August 22 to August 26. We got what we were order, the room was fairly clean. Food was ok , but you will sick of it after day 2, mostly ate at international buffet, quicker. Beach was beautiful, we love the adult pool. There is show at night, drink was good for all inclusive. The lobby and the room was smell but we got used to it on day 2. There is no air condition at the lobby (pretty hot and humid at this time of year). There is only one elevator on the Grand Oasis side (only fit for 7 persons). Never listen to the people who advertise other hotels in the lobby. You will waste your vacation time. Give tips!

the worst hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/6/08
wow. i just recently have been to this hotel and we stayed for about a week. there was only one restaurant that was actually worth waiting the HORRIBLE service for. the room service would always mess up the orders. not to mention the terrible smell in the lobbies. i stayed in the grand oasis area of the hotel and wasn't impressed at all. when i checked out they automatically charged 20 dollars for some charity. good thing i noticed it. they don't tell you about it unless you ask. there was also a major problem with the temperature control for the shower. they won't let you put 2 tables together if you have a large amount of people with you. most of the food was disgusting. staff aren't friendly unless you tip them. going to this hotel was a waste of money. please do not make the choice of staying there your vacation will be an unpleasant one like mine was.

Would not recommend this resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/1/08
This resort has two entrances. The Grand Oasis Viva entrance and the Oasis Viva entrance. Know specifically which area you are staying at in advance because it could determine if your room is updated or not. The Grand Oasis offers updated rooms and more privileges than the Oasis Viva which has rooms in very poor condition. Our tv did not work (twice) and the safe did not work. The sink clogged and the rooms were damp and musty smelling. The lobby and pool areas are continually cleaned and look nice. There are many families with children so the outside pool is very crowded. Overall the food is good. There are three main restaurants that offer a variety of foods that everyone can enjoy. The view is nice as the water is a beautiful aqua blue. The bars are usually crowded and have one person working them. The staff at this resort are not very helpful or friendly Overall, this was a fun trip but I would not stay at this resort again.

Will not ever go back
By GreggA, 4/28/08
We went April 19 -26 2008. Love the beach and the pool. will not ever stay there again. Food was bad, Drinks was watered down. I saw with my own eyes a bar tender filling a half empty vodka bottle with water and then start making mix dinks with it. service was poor. Room was never clean. They would want to clean room around 5:00 in the afternoon. Very dissapointed..

Will return here!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/10/08
This hotel was amazing! Its right on the beach and the weather was perfect when we went (4/08) The food is different, but they do offer pizza hotdogs and hamburgers (ect) in the little restaurant there if you don't like the buffet food. No one that I went with got sick from any of the food or drinks there. They offer water aerobics and children activities everyday! The location is also perfect (its just a 7 min walk to the night clubs and shopping!

Would definitely stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/29/08
My mom, daughter and I went to Cancun 2/08. We stayed at the Oasis Viva. Highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good value. All inclusive food choices were great and diverse. Staff extremely friendly and professional. Denise, who runs the kids program is awesome. Every room has a ocean view. I walked the beach each morning and by far this is the best beach for relaxing. Rooms were good. Mattresses were surprisingly comfortable. Very good place for families. I was worried when I read reviews on other websites about this hotel, but I must say that I was thoroughly satisified with this hotel.

great views from all rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/2/07
We (male-50, female-46) vacationed at the Oasis Viva on (June 16-23, 2007). Our room was on the 10th floor (top floor). The only problem was the elevator stops on the 8th floor. This was due to the 9th-10th floors being new and the 2nd elevator was still being installed. If you don't mind walking 1 or 2 flights of stairs, the 9th or 10th floor is worth the walk...the rooms are large, clean, and look like a 5 star resort room. The all glass view overlooking the bay is awesome. We had choice of staying at the oasis viva or (much larger )oasis palm, but opted for the viva knowing that all rooms are ocean front (spectacular). Everything you could want is within walking distance except ciy market(downtown). We took the bus to the market (sixty cents each way). We were disappointed in the market shopping, in that no-one would bargain, and the shop venders were too agressive. We found much better deals in the air conditioned malls just up the street from the Viva (within walking distance). We had a great time, except there is not any evening entertainment at the resort, unless you call the violinist entertaining. Good thing that carlos and charlies, senor frogs, coco bongo, etc, were within walking distance. You can also take the bus to the Oasis Grand. Since it is a sister resort, we used their facilities, restaurants, and lounge at no charge. After the 4th day, we decided we wanted a lower level room (4th floor) with a balcony (for a change of views). The balcony was great at night to relax, have a cocktail, and watch the sun go down over the water. The lower level rooms are average, nothing fancy, and compared to the 10th floor (which it cannot), it doesn't even seem like the same resort, but it did have the balcony. The food was always good whether we made dinner reservations or dined at the buffet restaurants. Great staff from the bartenders, to wait staff, to cleaning crews, very friendly and courtious. Great value.

Great!! (except the food)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/7/07
The views from this hotel cannot be beat. Every room has an ocean view. The hotel, while older, is kept incredibly clean and the grounds are beautiful. The beach was very clean and the water was perfect for families with kids. The only complaint we had was the food -- it was mediocre at best. Breakfast was good -- omelets cooked to order. Lunch at the Italian restaurant was fairly good but the buffets weren't very good. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was fair; dinner at the buffet wasn't good; dinner at the Mexican restaurant was disappointing because there was only one Mexican dish on the menu. Fortunately we don't go on vacation to eat, so it wasn't a big deal to us. There are tons of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel; we had great meals out. Everything else was spectacular.
