Pretty Good - With Some Issues
liked that the photos I saw online were exactly what I saw when we got there. The room was very nice and clean. As soon as I got there I received a courtesy call almost as soon as I walked into the room asking if everything was okay. I said yes because I hadn't really looked around but later discovered the bed was overly firm for my taste although my roommate didn't mind at all. The staff didn't seem to have a solution except to send me to another room which had the exact same mattress, go figure. I don't know if they thought I was too dumb to figure that out, that kind of irritated me. I asked for and received a blanket to counteract the firmness which honestly didn't help much but at least the staff did try, they weren't the owners. The lock on the bathroom door was broken but the maintenance man came and repaired it immediately and he was very nice and friendly. The continental breakfast was pretty good, a nice spread too and all you can eat. Also when you went in for the breakfast, the wait staff asked you to show your hotel key which I also found slightly annoying like you are sneaking in to eat from outside and shouldn't be there. They did this each time. The lobby is so small that it would be very difficult to do that anyway. At one point there was a weird noise all over the hotel and when I called down to ask about it I received a snippy response from one of the male staff. He basically said we have received complaints about it, we don't know what it is and basically did not say whether anything would be done or not. He behaved as if I was irritating him by calling and acted like why don't you hang up already, rude. He said nothing further so I hung up. I called back a few minutes later, this time spoke to a female staff who said they don't have maintenance staff after hours and that nothing could be done and offered to move me to another room (sigh). I checked out the other room, same sound in both rooms offered, again no solution so being tired I simply went to sleep. The shuttle was one of the best features of the hotel. Always available to take me to the train station although never the same driver. They also came quickly when I called from the train station to be picked up. I must say other than that one male staff all the other staff was very friendly and helpful male and female and on the last day the rude staff person did ask about the sound and if I had had any more problems so I will chalk that up to him having a bad day or days because he did act irritated and inpatient on one other occassion. The hotel offered free ice, ice buckets and coffee machines w/coffee. It would have been nice if they offered tea as well since I am not a coffee drinker. The tv had cable but no menu to show you what was on tv. That was kind of annoying too because you had to flip the channels and watch for a minute to determine what was on. I wanted to buy something from the gift shop but it closed by seven so no luck. I never visited the gym area or ballroom areas so no opinion on those. I paid for internet service and it was $10.00 for 10 hours of service which was I thought reasonable. I had no problem signing on and neither did my roommate, it was very convenient and easy to use and there was a timer on my computer telling me how much time I had left which was nice. The maids were very discreet, never saw them...I had plenty of towels, soap, etc. The room was nicely decorated, provided iron and ironing board and this is for the basic room. There was a mini mall within walking distance, I mean almost literally outside the hotel where you could get Baskin Robbins, Quiznos, Wendy's etc. There is a bus stop not too far away (10 minute walk) that takes you to New York (drops you off at the Port Authority) round trip for $5.00. I would recommend
