The BEALL MANSION, Alton

After receiving a Beall Mansion gift certificate as a Christmas gift last year my husband and I finally decided on a date to use it before it expired. My husband was not a big fan of B&Bs but I had never been to one. We chose a Thursday night stay and upon arrival were greeted by Jim (owner) with two flutes of champagne. Jim showed us the home while discussing renovation work and antiques. The home is beautifully decorated and has so many things in it you find yourself saying, "Was that there earlier? I don't remember seeing it." The mansion is on a street that is lined with magnificent late 1800 to early 1900 homes. After pre-addressing all possible questions Jim and his wife left for an evening in St. Louis. We had the mansion to ourselves and we found everything to our liking -- the chocolate and coffee/tea bars, the lavendar bath salts in the whirlpool tub, the "have to climb into" tall period piece bed, the continental breakfast but mostly, the quiet. We actually had two hours to just sit in the library and read -- it was fabulous. With two very stressful jobs it was a wonderful respite from our normal routine. My husband gave the experience a two thumbs up and we have already decided on a return stay at the same time in 2013. We visited during their quiet period but found that it was perfect for our Christmas shopping at the fine stores in St. Louis. We plan to make an entire weekend stay out of it next year. We highly recommend the Beall as the perfect getaway destination.

Our host, Jim, greeted us at the door, with a warm welcome. He gave us a complete tour of the mansion, culminating in our third floor suite. He came back later just to talk about the house, the neighborhood and the city. He and his wife did all in their power to offer us a five-star experience. They succeeded! We felt like we were in a friends home, as they made their home our home. The rooms, the rich and elegant furnishings of each, the warm and attractive lay out of our own suite, gave us a feeling of warmth and belonging.

I enjoyed every minute. The Belotes are some of the kindest people you would ever want to meet. They were very accomodating and you get the sense that they truly have a love for people. The bed was very comfortable. The room was nicely furnished. I had some studying to do while there and the room was perfect for doing that. I enjoyed the chocolate buffet. It was also interesting to just walk around looking at the furnishing and imagining what it would have been like living there before my time. It was an excellent experience.

My husband and I spent a week in the Beall Masion. We felt that the experince was wonderful. Our room was spacious and we even had our own private balcony. The tub was with the special bath salts top off each day. The chocolate bar, hot coffee and brandy before bed was an added plus. Jim and Sandy went out of their way to welcome us. We will definitly stay again when we are in the area to visit family.

This is our second visit to the Beall Mansion! We stayed the first time for our wedding night and then back for our 1st Anniversary in the same room! We are always greeted warmly by Jim and he is so kind to help us in anyway that he can. The room was beautiful and we enjoyed our stay very much! This historic B & B is beautiful. We love the chocolate bar and the continental breakfast gives you many choices. Maybe next time, we will splure for the breakfast in bed! Highly recommend the Beall Mansion!

me and my boyfriend stayed here for 3 nights. we were in the servants quarters, and the room was filled with antique collectibles which made it very elegant. the room has multiple windows, and being up on the third level, it put you right in the trees, making for a relaxing atmosphere. we thoroughly enjoyed having access to the chocolate bar, and there was a delectable selection of organic teas. although we didn't take advantage of the complimentary breakfast, we were able to sleep in without being bothered, and our bed was made daily, along with towels being fresh. our host, Jim, was very professional and provided us with a lot of history about the various collectibles in the house, and the house itself. he was very kind, and even offered to help us with our bags from our car to the third floor. there was a thorough list of restaurants in the area, proving helpful as we didn't know the area too well. although the pictures online are beautiful of the mansion, wait until you are actually there; the surrounding mansions, along with the Beall mansion, create very picturesque surroundings. - Kasey and Jake

This place is awesome. My fiance and I could not have been happier with the service. I have been to a few five star hotels and they could not hold a candle to the grandeur and artistry of this place. The architecture and the antiques inside of this victorian mansion are reason enough to visit. We got a great deal on groupon and it paid off. Rose pedals on the beds, heart shaped hot tub, chocolate buffet, free bath salts, complimentary champagne, a smooth brandy for a night cap, what more should be said. This place will sweep any woman off of her feet. This is not a party house or a playhouse mind you but if you want to please that special someone you can not go wrong with this choice. The two owners made sure everything was to our liking and always made sure we were satisfied. We would definitely recommend the Beall Mansion to anyone looking for a romantic stay.

Very relaxing. Nice spa treatment. Breakfast in bed. Just minutes from downtown activities and restaurants. Close to argosy casino and fast Eddie's. Jim and sandy are the best.

Wonderful place, we enjoyed our stay a lot! I definitely recommend this place to stay while in Alton. Superb, clean, very comfortable and welcoming. This Mansion is everything you'd ever wanted to spend a night (or more) in. Thank you Jim and Sandy very much for your hospitality!

Decorated in a beautiful victorian style and met at the door by the owner in a full tux!! You really feel like you are a socialite in the 1800's. The food was wonderful and we really enjoyed having Brandy in the music room in the evening and getting meet the other guests. Just a great experience.
