Can't trust the housekeeping staff

I left a cocktail shirt in the closet in garment bag when I checked out. Called from the road to tell staff. Although no one had checked into room and only housekeeping had been in it-bag was gone. Management would only say they cannot verify it was left. I would be afraid to stay there again as you can't trust the housekeepers who come into your room.
