Though called a hotel, this wonderful property is actually a collection of 26 cottages built out on a pier. Most of these temporary travelers' homes were built back in the 1930s; all of them have been renovated in recent years. You'll wish you could just move right in, since each cottage has its own bedroom, living room, patio and kitchen. With parking just outside your door, it would be hard to find more cozy convenience at any other hotel in the area. From sunrise to sunset, you'll enjoy a view of the ocean and the waves that few others will ever see. Rates are seasonal.

BEST PLACE TO STAY!!
By Big, 10/07/09
I have a very nice classic car and it's great being able to park your car in front of your room and having it locked in at night. The rooms are very clean and once it gets dark the pier is locked to the public. It's kind of pricey but I think its the best place to stay on the beach..literally.

Customer service is missing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/19/09
Called the Desk Clerk at 10 a.m. to see if an early check-in before 2 p.m. might be possible. "Check out is a 11 a.m. and we'll call and let you know as soon at the cottage becomes available," he said. At 3:30 p.m. I was called by another Desk Clerk and asked if I'd be checking in before 8 p.m.. She was unaware of my earlier request. After check-in and around 8 p.m. I noticed three cottages and their parking spaces were vacant and asked if my wife could park her car in one over night. "No, the Fire Marshal prohibits it," I was told. I called the SD Fire Marshal and was told that was not true. I spoke with the Desk Clerk who said, "We tell people that but they don't usually check." I suggested to the Desk Clerk that providing customers with unused parking spaces would be good customer service, whereas lying to customers is not. For some reason he didn't think purposefully not telling truth was a lie. The reason for not allowing use of unused parking spaces then changed. "If we do it for one person, we'd have to do it for everyone." Wouldn't that be good customer service, I asked. Then the reason changed once again, this time he said the insurance carrier wouldn't permit it. I didn't ask for the name of the insurance carrier.

Nice weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/29/08
Spend the weekend here and had a great time. Good location for enjoying the beach life. Lots of places to go to and enjoy. I was charged $40.00 more for the room than what I was quoted when I made the reservations. When I checked in the girl said that would be changed. When I checked out they did not change the rate back to what I was told. The staff just does not seem to know what going on. $275 a night is real high for a place like this. Will not go back again.

Beautiful Sunsets
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/08/07
I discovered this facinating little hideaway in the early 70's.Several years later my sisters and I began staying there and it has become a yearly tradition for well over ten years now.The staff is EXCELLENT!And by the way most of the original staff remains at the Crystal Pier which says a lot about the place. The cottages are so cute and CLEAN and the views are breath taking.Tons of fun things to do so close by so I can truly rate the Crystal Pier as Perfect "10".

Loved it
By Tim, 09/01/07
We got married on the beach below and had a small reception on the pier. It was wonderful, the staff was helpful and the location was perfect. The view was unbeatable. The cottages were very cute and clean. Perfect for our needs.

Go back every year
By jeanie t, 08/20/07
My sister started going to the pier, and I joined her one year, and that did it. We have been going back every year for about 10 years. I know the beds are little on the in- expensive side. But at night you can lock up and not be bothered by anyone. They have a security guard on duty. So as far as the board walk is conserned. The Pier has it beat. Usually we lock up, but once in a while we forget. No on has bothered out things. Long wait to get in, have to book a year in advance, but what to expect sleeping over the water. Be back next year. Another Cali Dreamer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/18/07
I lived in southern California most my life and my parents first took my sister and I there when I was about 15,I'm 34 now... I loved it! We continued to go there for years after that with more and more family members, it's exciting to see the reaction of newcomers, it's like they cant believe this place actually exists! Unfortunately, I live in Oregon now and haven't had a chance to get back there in awhile... That is definately one thing that I truely miss about California, I can't say enough about it! I haven't had the chance to see the new remodling that has been done, but the place was VERY nice even before that, so I can only imagine what it looks like now. I have so many great memories of this place and highly recommend it to all!

A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/07
There is no wear I would rather spend my vacation than Crytal Pier. The location is kind of rowdy but when your on the pier you feel like your in your own world. The manager Jim.B IS THE SALT OF THE EARTH. I feel bad for the people who decieded after going to the pier for years and years that they no longer wanted to return, thing's change and it sound's like those people must have changed more the the pier. We are lookinbg forward to our time in August See you then. The Clare's
