Don't stay at this hotel
By ,
The more than 400.00 per night did not make this a good value with food that reminded me of a mess hall in boot camp, dirty rooms, no hot water, lousy customer service. For seventy dollars more a night we could have stayed at the Atlantis and happily purchased great food. Live and learn. Even if the room rates had been drastically reduced, it would never be worth it.

Time at Sunspree
By ,
The staff was great especially the bartendars at the Wahoo Bar. Entertainment was ok. The DJ there Ricardo was awesome. Only problem we had was our room was not ready when we got there and had to wait about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Avoid the Atlantis time share. The food wasn't bad. We had plenty to eat there. The food at the Wahoo Bar was the best. The breakfast downstairs was the best. Another thing we did not like was there was no Bud Light.

Trying to go back this week
By ,
the locals who work here were the best. Of 7 trips to nassau, this was the best. The hotel is the smallest I've stayed in on Nassau, but the help were so friendly that as soon as I returned home to Cape May N.J. I went and got a tatoo of the Bahamian flag across my back. I belive I really felt the Island. It should be known that I am not a person covered in tatoos.A local boy named Wesnee took me to places on the Island that not too many white boys from New Jersey have seen. Thank you Wesnee, my little Bahamian brother Jim & P.J.

bad pool
By ,
The filter on the pool broke, the water was not being filtered for 2 1/2 days!! I was having trouble seeing the kids underwater, so we stayed out for 2 days. We were told at the front desk that if we didn't want to swim in the pool, we should go to the beach a few blocks away! It is an all inclusive, so they cannot "give" you anything you already have, but maybe a "comp" tour of atlantis for a few hours would have made us feel a little better.

Excellent Value -but READ CLOSELY
By ,
Stayed there July 19-24 of 2005. The key to having a good stay here is knowing what to expect. Do not expect Atlantis or RIU - you are not spending that kind of money here! :) Lets start with the negative first... 1. This place is NOT on the "beach". If you read closely, Holiday Inn says they have a private beach (man made sand) on a man made lagoon. That is exactly what you get. The real beach is a 10 minute walk or $3 cab ride. The only way this is a negative is if you are fooled by the cropped pictures. This can be deceiving if you don't read carefully. 2. The buffet food is not for picky eaters. My wife had a hard time eating there but my Navy days allow me to eat just about anything. 3. Mold on the ceiling in the closet (minor). This is understandable because the room is cold and the closet is closed most of the time. And that's it. And now some of the positive (there was a lot of positive). 1. Excellent food at the pool bar. This kitchen is the same one that serves the fancy dining area. The chef is also a good dancer! :) The menu changes after 6PM and you can eat gourmet food in your bating suit by the pool. Order the steak rare - they tend to overcook a bit. We never made reservations at the fancy place because the food is the same outside by the pool! Expect 30 minutes for them to call your number. The food is cooked to order. 2. Friendly and helpful staff. They all seem to like working there. 3. Slurpee machine. Mix your own frozen drinks to taste. 4 types to choose from with your choice of booze. The pool bar gets crowded but they do move people through pretty quickly. 4. Entertainment in the lounge. Live bands, DJ's, Action Jackson the Fire eating Limbo guy...always something going on in the evenings. 5. Kids seemed to love it. I didn't bring mine but I plan to next time. They have a Sponge Bob room where you can drop kids for a while with activities planned. There were many kids of all ages there. The adults behaved well in front of the kids. Even with unlimited adult slurpees! :) OK. Get a good room rate and stay here remembering you are spending 1/2 the cost of RIU. It will help you deal with the minor shortcomings that you will experience. Hope this helps!

Not on the Beach
By ,
Hotel is NOT ON THE BEACH!!! Regardless of what the pictures show. The hotel is on the South Side of the Island facing a harbor. The hotel lacks maintenance. We won't go back. Recommend to pay a little more and stay at the Riu Hotel which is much nicer "on the beach and all-inclusive". First, the good things: The room was nice and clean. Cool AC. Beds were comfortable. They don't allow early check-in or late check-out, but the hotels provides a room for 30minutes for people to change. They also hold your bags while you wait. Most people were nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. OK lunch. Bad thigns: Elevators: Out of 3 elevators only 1 worked all the time. First time I had to wait in line for an elevator. Another guess mentioned that the elevator dropped 10 feet while he was getting out. Almost lost an arm in the process. Hotel lost power one night from 2AM until about 8:30AM. We wondered what happened to the food.... Food: All-Inclusive food was "cafeteria food" not restaurant food. There is a dress code (no shorts) for second Restaurant (with better food) but they don't tell you when you make the reservation. I did not take any long pants. Employee told us that the hotel use the dress code to get people out and lower operating cost. Complaint to manager Frank Trotta and Stephen Kappeler. They could not care less. Safe did not work: The Safe in our room did not work. Mentioned it to Manager Frank Trotta. Never got fixed. Had to carry passports and airplane tickets with us all the time. Pool: Nice pool, but the deck is in need of Pressure Washing and some bleach. All-Inclusive Drinks: Weak. Only local Rum and local Beer. Pool-Side Food - Wahoos: MacDonnalds is better. Hotel is about 4-5 blocks from Public beach. Long walk if you have little kids. Taxis charge $3 per person each way between the hotel and public beach. We will NOT GO BACK TO HOLIDAY INN SUNSPREE.

Never Again!
By ,
I made plans with a travel agent to stay at the Holiday Inn sunspree in early May 2005. The pictures on the internet looked great, but what a shock when I arrived. We checked in and went to our room, only to be sickened by the smell of mildew. The halls smelled like pine sol and my daughter, after being in the room for an hour became very sick. I went to the desk, and they tried to put us in another room. We experienced the same horrible smell and it was musty and damp. We called our travel agent and were fortunate enough, after a long phone coversation, were able to switch hotels. We went to the RIU next to the Atlantis. For the same money, we had a wonderful week in the Bahamas. I suggest you think again if you are planning to stay at the Sunspree.

Absolute Paradise!!!
By ,
This hotel is situated on the bayside, facing Nassau. But just a quick walk to the other side of the island, was the most beautiful beach. Everything is in walking distance--great little shops, for all your buying pleasures. Just a quick ride by land taxi or water taxi, is the island of Nassau. We stayed on the 11th floor, and had a spectacular view of the bay. The room was very nice and bright, very clean, and the service was excellent. This is an all-inclusive resort, and the variety of dining options was wonderful. The nightlife was also varied and alot of fun!!! The list of hotel ammenities is too long to list here, and the staff was very accommodating in helping with our choices of activities. We have visited this hotel twice, and are talking about the third trip. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!!!!
