Good economical choice!
By ,
I'm impressed with Microtel in Ames! Friendly staff! Ultra clean rooms, halls, and lounge area! Computers available with Internet in the lounge. Pets allowed, yet very clean and free of dog waste. Neatly manicured lawn with nice cement patio and picnic tables (to eat outside with your pets or just enjoy the weather. "Home-y" atomosphere. Newer building. Flat screen LCD TV, mounted to the wall to save space. Wireless Internet access for free (pretty common anymore). Small, yet efficiently arranged rooms. Decent continental breakfast. Nice check out time (noon)! Down sides: Sheets were "fuzzy"; cheap cotton sheets. Bed was a bit hard, although I must admit, my back didn't hurt when I woke up (which isn't the case out our home). Room (we did not stay in a suit) was quite small, although the layout is very functional. I would recommend this hotel to people who like to save money, yet not sacrifice too much. I would not recommend this to people who expect nothing less than Marriot and better simply because of the room size, hard bed and lower quality sheets. I will definitely return to this hotel!!!

Nice for the Price
By ,
My wife and I felt that this hotel was a solid 3-stars. The room was clean, the shower was good, and the staff was helpful. The hotel also provides free wireless internet access which is something you don't even get at expensive establishments. The price was quite reasonable and the lobby/breakfast area was very pleasant and well kempt. The breakfast is continental and nothing fancy but it was always well stocked and filled the need. Overall we were very satisfied with the value we got for our dollar during our stay.

Disappointed.
By ,
I was late getting in and didn't look around the room well until next morning. Rug appeared not to have been vacuumed properly and some kind of linen was on the floor in the bathroom. The lobby area is attractive but the rooms are really not. Just a little imagination could make these places charming without increasing the cost. Very few amenities compared to other lodging of comparable cost.

Dirty, bad employee practices
By ,
I stayed at this hotel for its location. wish I wouldn't have. I stayed 1 night in this location, but was charged for three nights. when I saw the charges on my credit card I called the management of this establishment, told them i stayed one night, I left at 6.30 am no one was at the desk, I left my room key and then they charged me three nights. The management said that I put a do not disturb sign on door, which was false. I did no such thing. This company did not return my money and I would recommend if you do business with this company that you pay in cash.

great nights sleep!
By ,
My family and I decided to visit Ames to see the Cyclones play. We arrived at the Microtel on a Thursday night, and planned to stay that following Friday and Saturday. From the moment we walked in the door things were great. There were cookies and other snacks out for guests. I asked what the occasion was and the front desk staff informed us they do this every week night. Our room was very clean, water pressure was great, and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk staff was wonderful. The overall experience was overwhelmingly magnificent we will definitely be back!

Weird Experience
By ,
I am a single mom, and stayed here with my kids last summer. After checking in, we were in our room unpacking, and had someone knock on our door. It was the man who had checked us in. He walked into our room and said that he needed to look around and see if everything was ok. It was very weird and unsettling. My kids were afraid to sleep that night. I mentioned it to a different employee and was told that he was "harmless"?? That really didn't make me feel better. If not for that happening, I would gladly stay here again.

OK-nothing special
By ,
Room was clean (except for paper on bathroom floor). Shower was terrible. Half the water came out of the faucet handle and the shower didn't have enough water pressure to rinse your hair or body.
