Saint James Hotel Downtown, New Orleans

We visit New Orleans every 4th of July weekend for the Essence Festival, unfortunately this was the worst hotel we have stayed in. The location was great, the price was good, the staff was nice, but the hotel was horrible. Entered into the room, urine scented room, hot, with dirty carpet, nasty bathroom with hair on the floor is what we got. Printed forms was located at the front desk, which wasn't offered to you. These forms stated that if you wanted your room cleaned then the form must be filled out and returned to the front desk by 11:00 am if not, they will just give you towels which you have to place on the outside of your door early in the am (the housekeeper will give you a wake-up call at 8:30 am to remind you to put your towels on the outside of the door) and in return you will not get all your towels back. The thermostat is locked on 76F at all times. The swimming pool looked like a whirlpol for two and was not cleaned. The hotel needs a complete make-over.

there was no a/c. the customer service was unhelpful. had to makeup our beds. had to empty our own trash. had to reuse our towels and sheets. i wouldn't stay here again.

Ces't Super! On my return to New Orleans I cannot imagine staying anywhere else than the St. James Hotel on Magazine. The hotel staff does an incredible job at making you feel at home, like family and accomodating every request as best, and as quickly as possible. Chris, Stephanie, Euginia, Ann & Patrick are just a few that I had the pleasure of meeting. Always professional and kind. My business trip turned mini vacation was amazing. The beds were so comfortable and I slept like a baby! The rooms are charming... I checked in 4 times as I extended my stay from business to pleasure into the weekend. I had requested the same room, when it became unavailable, they offered another beautiful room off the patio and pool - just lovely. Location and comfort are key for me. Only blocks from the French Quarter nightlife, dinner and exploring. Then a quick walk back to the hotel for some peace and quiet. Looking forward to my next visit. No services, add on fees for internet and telephone, and the place is filthy. Thank goodness I stayed only one night. Save yourself some grief and go somewhere else.

My room looked nothing like the pics on the web site. It was tiny and dark and smelled of cigarettes even though I called beforehand and was assured it was a smoke free hotel, which it wasn't. There was actually one smoking floor so how can they say it's smoke free? I had no closet only a small 14" wide area adjacent to the tv in the armoire for clothing and shoes! Carpet and bathroom floor was DIRTY along with the tub/shower and bathroom counter. Not acceptable. Bed had a heavy burlapy feel duvet cover (!) which I'm sure never got washed ever with a lightweight down comforter inside which I immediately took out and wrapped in the flat sheet. Horrible decor. WiFi worked great, surprisingly. Staff was nice and discounted room $100 for that night without me having to ask. I ended up moving around the corner to the International House...which was very nice albeit $50 more per night but so worth it.

Beautiful decor, nice rooms, wonderful service. We were given connecting rooms that really made it convenient. The location is great. Small, intimate, downtown hotel with New Orleans charm.

I have never experienced a more awful hotel experience in my life. The staff was probably the rudest people I've ever met. We were put in a room that had 1 bed for 6 people, no TV, and no shower head. Stay there at your own risk.

We stayed in room 401, which is on the top floor and boasts a large patio. Unfortunately the patio furniture and plants have been neglected but odlly added a touch of rustic. The room was elegantly charming and the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The staff was exceptional. Never being to New Orleans the concierge was very helpful. We were 2 short blocks to Canal and were experiences the other side of New Orleans. Enjoy!

This lovely hotel was like a world of it's own with it's quaint little courtyard, and the cozy hallways that lead to absolutely scrumptious rooms. The room was large, bright and oh so inviting we could barely bring ourselves to leave. But of course we did. With the guidance of the front desk clerk we discovered some wonderful restaurants in the French Quarter within easy walking distance, as well as some delightful shopping entertainment. So easy we could pop back for a refreshing nap and go right back to being delighted tourists in the city of mystery, exitement and cajun cooking.

The hotel and staff where wonderful the rooms where very clean and the hotel was in a great location for everything we had planned for our trip. The pool was a little small but the hotel is doing an upgrade that we where told should be finished by Oct 05.
