Rodeway Inn and Suites Monticello, Monticello

New carpet releasing nasty fumes that cause headache, sinus congestion and burning eyes. One frayed towel, one with orange stains, both felt like burlap. Removed the bedspread to cover some of the carpet up and the blanket beneath was dirty and had a burn mark in it. Breakfast? OMG! Started at 6:30. By 7:30, when we went to it there was nothing left but 4 hard boiled eggs, about 20 little Hostess style mini donuts, cereal but no milk, and a few pieces of fruit and some waffle batter--not a lot of that either. Dismal. The desk clerk told us from behind her newspaper that there was no more food to put out. We used too many thousand points for this room and were shocked to find out it cost only $35 a night. What a waste of points. It was an awful experience. My husband couldn't sleep because of the fumes even with the window wide open. I slept with my jacked over my face.

I've been in some grungy motels, but this one takes the cake. In the 2 nights we stayed the carpets in the halls were never vacuumed (the same clumps of Monticello's red sand never moved, on the stairs and in the halls), and yet for some reason the place reeked of Lysol. One of the bath towels was frayed, there was only one partial roll of toilet paper, our "non-smoking" room smelled of tobacco smoke, and on arrival one of the drapes was falling from the rod, only held on by 2 or 3 hooks. Oh, and dirt was caked in the corners of the bathroom. Yuck!

$40 for a bed and continental breakfast. Of our 10 nights this is the only hotel with fruit at the breakfast counter. Very helpful family staff. Internet access and in room coffee, fridge, Microwave!! Spa closed
