warning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/11
Not what its all cracked up to be.... slow on room service , slow to bring clean towels. didn't clean our roon , we had to call and even then they didn't give us enough towels. beach is very dirty, there are straws eveywhere on the beach . there is a bathroom smell at the pool near the bathrooms .. yuck. food was way way way overpriced and not that great. when you step in this hotel its like your in paradise.....but you can't judge a book by its cover... this was a bad dream... never again and if your going to book a trip --- you've been warned .

Not Great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/11
Liked the beautiful hotel.....Disliked - No where to eat unless you take a taxi - so every meal is taxi+meal cost. Or you can eat at the resort - and there is no meal even for breakfast thats less than 50.00 for two people. The pools are beautiful ! But the smell near the bathrooms are a bit too much. I would not go back again.

Poor Service: Theft in Room: Waste of Money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/10
I was here for a business conference. At first it seems like a beautiful property, but in the room paint was peeling from the cieling. Even worse I had jewlery stolen from my make up bag. As if this was not bad enough I could never get a General Manager or Security Director to speak with me in person or via phone. I just got other staff members who were less than sympathic. Not helpful wtih service at all. Maybe this is so common they don't care. I actually filed a Police report to learn that this is a problem at the hotel when there are conferences. I have stayed at many Westin properties and this is NOT in line from a service or security with the brand. VERY DISAPPOINTING SERVICE. Not worth the money. LOCK your valuables up because the housekeeping can't be trusted

GREAT for Couples!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/10
PRO's - We loved this hotel! The customer service was great (front desk, valet, and concierge)! It was very easy to upgrade our reservation, once we arrived at the hotel. The rooms were spacious for two people! Our room had an amazing ocean view, and we could still hear the ocean from the 21st floor! I must not forget that it smelled AMAZING!! The pools, cabanas, gazebo, and the beach was really nice!! Con's - As the internal dining is a bit pricey, I recommend the upscale sports bar across the street. I totally recommend that you have a rental car because there are very few things to do within walking distance. Also, I really don't think that this is a good hotel for kids/teenagers, if you are staying longer than the pools keep their interest!! Overall, the hotel served our purpose, and exceeded our expectations!!

TOO MANY CHILDREN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/10
Great place, too many children. Pool has turned gray in the past two times I have visited. Two years ago I promised myself never to go back, but figured during the week I would have mostly adiults, nope, more children then adults. Also the "Club Level" now makes you pay for drinks, no longer has hot snacks and the food they have is terrible. Why do they have t make simple food complicated and overcharge. The hotel itself is beautiful, the pool outstanding if you like lots of kids and having the pool turn gray at the end of each day.

Great pool for kids,
By melody shadow, 9/14/09
We just got back and had a nice time. Airport FLL to hotel Westin Diplmat was $23 not including tip. Check in was easy and we were able to get our room at 12:30 way before the website said of 4:00. Front desk gave our son a kids club bag. In it it had a rubber duck for his bath, night light, bandaids, ointment, wall outlet plugs. They all came in handy. Bell man was very information about restaurants. Lobby was gorgeous! Room was great. Did not have a balcony, like our neighbors, but I think because we had a child. Very kid friendy and childproof. We just had to put all the trashcans higher and remove all literature so he would not rip it. Other than that we were very comfortable about letting him rome around. We kept the bathroom door closed, the marle floor is slippery. It was nice having such a big bathroom with a separate shower and tub. One, we were able to take our son a bath and have a place to put our wet clothes to dry. They also sent up a crib, or Heavenly crib. A little small. I estimate 3 feet long, but nice. Not a very big resort. Nothing really to do exept to relax and be by the pool. Beach is very near by. Not stroller/wheelchair friendly. It is assisible,, but way to many ramps, smelly elevators to get down there and to the Splash restaurant. There were not very many people on the beach. Not a huge beach either. They have one of the best kids pool! The deepest was 5 ft and then you went up 3 steps and it was 6 inches for the little kids like mine. And it was descent size. I even saw adult use it just to relax in. Perfect temperature - no lifeguards. Plenty of chairs - towels. It was nice when other families were there. That is one pool- call it the family pool. Then on the lower level, there is another pool, 3 times as big that has 2 waterfalls that is no more than 5 ft. Separate is spa. There are 2 decks on one floor just for laying out. Also on another deck there is a spa were no one was there. If you go on off season, you can have lots of private space, and sometimes the whole pool to yourself, just explore. There are lots of cozy places to relax, read a book, work. As far as restaurants. We did not have a car, so we were at the mercy of the hotel and surronding restaurants. It is expensive! The least is the Common Grounds in front that you can get a sandwich for a min of $8.00, chips $2, yogurt $2.50, etc. The next is Splash and Cafe where a hamburger cost 15.00. We also went to 7-eleven (I believe north, just 1/2 mile) and stocked up on food. The room has a fridge. On the way to there, there was pizzeria called Tony's. I highly recommened it. We ate there 3 times. Big portions on dinners and a slice of cheese pizza will cost ya $2 and supreme $4.50 They did not have a highchair and they have very thick accents. If you have a car, there is a Walmart less than a mile on E Hallandale. You could also walk. Also on that road is a Cuban restaurant called Padrinos. Excellent food, kid friendly and within walking distance. Other places we did not go to but are close: Burger King, subway. There is also a bar and grille opposite the hotel in the Diplomat shopping center. opens a 4:00. They said they have shopping, but we did not see anything. You can also get a $5.00 a day coupon to use at the resort if you opt out of housekeeping. Be sure to read the pamplet in your room. We took advantage of that and got $10.00 to use within the resort. There really isn't any shopping to do. They have a gift shop with toiletries, postcards and the usual. Then in the Health spa near the conventions center they have another shop for clothes. I am not sure if this is every night, but the days we were there, they had movie night at 7:30?8:00. One day they had the Incredible and the next it was Night at the Museum for free. Everyone was nice but not that knowledgable about what is going on. You do feel pampered when you are there. I hope this helped, sorry it was long

Nice hotel, great beach, bring your wallet
By Lucie, 7/14/09
The hotel itself was really nice. The pool and beach were great.. The area is really boring if you don't have a car. There is nothing in walking distance. The hotel has some decent resturants and the food is pretty good but it's so expensive.. My husband and I had a casual meal at the sprots bar Rivals. Two meals (burgers and pizza) and one kids meal and 4 beers, the tab was $80.00. The place would be great for a long weekend and the beach is fabulous but i was stuck there for over a week with a 1 year old and no rental car and it was tourture!

Great Fascade, If You Don't Mind the Locals
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/2/09
This hotel is like a Holleywood Starlette-looks great on the outside. Why did it take so long to get a drinik at the beach bar? Who were the nervous people hiding in the corner sneaking cigs? Who was the Russian man yelling at guests for smoking cigars outside-far from other guests-while a homeless man snuck up from the beach and headed toward the many purses left by loungers who thought the place was secure? Why were three old men being entertained in the pool by three very beautiful eastern european women in their early twenties? Was is the gulag-like atmosphere? Would my young son notice these odd sights? He had noticed a large shark swim past the unsuspecting bathers from our great view on the 12th floor. But fortunately he missed these other details. And he thought it was funny when a group of drunk young Teamsters (nice guys all) had a farting contest while my wife and I sat beside them in the hot tub. And it was funny. Funny that a beautiful hotel on a nice beach can be so creepy. But if you're a tea totalling non smoking wallett carrying young guy who likes to fart and scope hookers, this is the place for you. Just expect to pay through the teeth for the wet T-shirt contest!

Beautiful ocean views and beach.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/17/08
We come here every year in August for a convention, so I've been here every August since 2004. They have raised the prices a little bit in the last couple years though. Is it still worth it? Yes! The staff are very courteous and helpful, I have never had a problem with them. I find the restaurants overpriced for what they serve, but there is a kick ass reasonably priced sports bar across in the Diplomat Landing. I find the rooms are small and cramped, but the Heavenly bed is amazing. The bathroom is beautiful, with a large tub and seperate shower stall... I felt luxurious while getting ready in there. The pool area & cabanas are excellent, and the white sand beach is just a few steps away. In regards to location, you are not close to anything really. Downtown Ft Lauderdale is a drive. This is more of a resort destination where you don't leave your hotel for the days you are here. It's not really my style but my husband LOVES it (because he likes pimp & fancy stuff) and the convention makes it fun. I personally would not stay here if it wasn't for business reasons, as I'm more of a road trip kind of girl. I'd recommend it if you like fancy places that charge for every kind of service or extra, bottled water and resort fees. Make sure you get an ocean view room... VERY worth it. I love standing on the balcony watching the lightning strikes over the Atlantic. Just a note, this resort is NOT smoker friendly.
