Great pool for kids,
We just got back and had a nice time. Airport FLL to hotel Westin Diplmat was $23 not including tip. Check in was easy and we were able to get our room at 12:30 way before the website said of 4:00. Front desk gave our son a kids club bag. In it it had a rubber duck for his bath, night light, bandaids, ointment, wall outlet plugs. They all came in handy. Bell man was very information about restaurants. Lobby was gorgeous! Room was great. Did not have a balcony, like our neighbors, but I think because we had a child. Very kid friendy and childproof. We just had to put all the trashcans higher and remove all literature so he would not rip it. Other than that we were very comfortable about letting him rome around. We kept the bathroom door closed, the marle floor is slippery. It was nice having such a big bathroom with a separate shower and tub. One, we were able to take our son a bath and have a place to put our wet clothes to dry. They also sent up a crib, or Heavenly crib. A little small. I estimate 3 feet long, but nice. Not a very big resort. Nothing really to do exept to relax and be by the pool. Beach is very near by. Not stroller/wheelchair friendly. It is assisible,, but way to many ramps, smelly elevators to get down there and to the Splash restaurant. There were not very many people on the beach. Not a huge beach either. They have one of the best kids pool! The deepest was 5 ft and then you went up 3 steps and it was 6 inches for the little kids like mine. And it was descent size. I even saw adult use it just to relax in. Perfect temperature - no lifeguards. Plenty of chairs - towels. It was nice when other families were there. That is one pool- call it the family pool. Then on the lower level, there is another pool, 3 times as big that has 2 waterfalls that is no more than 5 ft. Separate is spa. There are 2 decks on one floor just for laying out. Also on another deck there is a spa were no one was there. If you go on off season, you can have lots of private space, and sometimes the whole pool to yourself, just explore. There are lots of cozy places to relax, read a book, work.
As far as restaurants. We did not have a car, so we were at the mercy of the hotel and surronding restaurants. It is expensive! The least is the Common Grounds in front that you can get a sandwich for a min of $8.00, chips $2, yogurt $2.50, etc. The next is Splash and Cafe where a hamburger cost 15.00. We also went to 7-eleven (I believe north, just 1/2 mile) and stocked up on food. The room has a fridge. On the way to there, there was pizzeria called Tony's. I highly recommened it. We ate there 3 times. Big portions on dinners and a slice of cheese pizza will cost ya $2 and supreme $4.50 They did not have a highchair and they have very thick accents. If you have a car, there is a Walmart less than a mile on E Hallandale. You could also walk. Also on that road is a Cuban restaurant called Padrinos. Excellent food, kid friendly and within walking distance. Other places we did not go to but are close: Burger King, subway. There is also a bar and grille opposite the hotel in the Diplomat shopping center. opens a 4:00. They said they have shopping, but we did not see anything.
You can also get a $5.00 a day coupon to use at the resort if you opt out of housekeeping. Be sure to read the pamplet in your room. We took advantage of that and got $10.00 to use within the resort. There really isn't any shopping to do. They have a gift shop with toiletries, postcards and the usual. Then in the Health spa near the conventions center they have another shop for clothes.
I am not sure if this is every night, but the days we were there, they had movie night at 7:30?8:00. One day they had the Incredible and the next it was Night at the Museum for free. Everyone was nice but not that knowledgable about what is going on. You do feel pampered when you are there. I hope this helped, sorry it was long
