The Crescent was a nice hotel that provided a well appointed suite for a low rate ($99/nt). It isn't the Crown Plaza or a JW Marriott, but it is clean, nicely renovated (although the furniture was in the process of being re-upolstered), and has a great location. My room was in the back of the hotel, away from Ocean. So, I didn't hear that much street noise. But, the hotel is on the 14th block of Ocean, which is at the north end of the ocean front park on South Beach...far enough away from action to have it be a little quieter, but close enough so that you could walk to anything you want. Also, there is a Starbucks within 1/2 block from the hotel, which is great for those who need their Starbucks fix. All in all, I had a very pleasant experience there and would return.
Drawbacks...no free internet, no pool, no bar/restuarant. Also, they advertise a spa, but the spa was just a rooftop patio that faced the water.
The costomer service was wonderful. They did not have attitudes and volunteered to help with everything. A lot of the MIA hotels are independently owned so they have no competition other than the surrounding hotels, nor do they care about costomer satisfaction; the Crescent cared. Although the parking fees can get out of control ($27.00 for valet or $8.00 for 8-24 hours, $1.00 for each hour before or after the 8 -24 hours), and at night it gets really loud (keep in mind that you are in MIA though), the experience was an overal satisfaction. The beach and shopping centers are at walking distance.
We stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. We expected the same experience. The room we stayed at this time was not very clean and missing light fixtures. They had removed the jacuzzi from the rooftop and what made it a very bad experience is that for almost all 5 nights we were there they were hard selling timeshares in the lobby, on the rooftop, on the elevators and in front of the hotel. We were repeatedly approached by the serveral sellers. They were not just in front of the hotel but also bringing people in off the street. This took place day and night. I will not go back to this hotel.
A Valentine's Day nightmare.
My boyfriend and I had great plans to meet from across the country in Chicago and fly into Miami together. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed and we did not arrive until midnight. My boyfriend called the hotel to check and see if the long stemmed roses he ordered arrived. They told him they did and they would out them behind the counter for when we arrived. He was also assured that they would hold our room even if we were delayed.
When we finally got there, to our dismay- we did not have a room. The security guard said he was sorry, and handed me my roses. He said we needed to find somewhere else to stay, on Valentine's Day... after midnight. This was not easy and we ended up (with the assistance from the security officer on duty because NO hotel staff was there at "The Beach Club" in a scary room under construction- which we had to pay $149!
The hotel manager on the phone that night said we could have a room the next night at the same rate. No discount offered, nothing. We had no choice but to take it because everything else was booked and the construction room was not the least bit romantic. When we finally got into our room, after having to leave "the Beach Club" by 11am and not able to check into our originally booked room until 2pm, we had to hang out and have a long lunch with our luggage in tow.
When we finally got a room, it was tastefully done in a modern way- in white and silver. The location was great but because of poor management it was the worst Valentine's weekend ever. Nothing but an "I'm sorry" was certainly a poor response...
The spa area is small and attached to the area of a rooftop veranda room. We felt as if we were intruding because the guests in that room were also out of their balcony- and were certainly not happy to see us.
It is right in the middle of south beach, so location is the only reason I would EVER stay here again.
