Terrible Dining Experience
By Heather Mack, 2/2/12
We ordered the Wild Mushroom Marsala and Monte Cristo for lunch. The Mushroom marsala was bland and the grilled polenta barely warm, which we overlooked...the Monte Cristo however, had paper PAPER!!! mixed within the ham and turkey. We brought this to the attention of the restaurant manager, who declined to return our money for the sandwich (as it was half eaten) and was very rude and spoke over me. Save your money and your time, there are better, more hospitable places to dine in Baker City...try Barley Brown's. Great food. Great service.

Road Trip to Oregon from Kansas
By bill, 9/3/11
It was the end of a long day of driving when we arrived in Baker City. We stopped at the Chamber office just off the highway. The man was great, very enthsiastic about his town. Gave us several suggestions and called the Geiser for us. We arrived and got a tour picked a great room above the street with a wonderful view. The staff was nice, the room was pretty and clean. We enjoyed the restaurant, the prices were high, but everyone was friendly, and proffesional. We walked around downtown and enjoyed the other storefronts and owners.

Worst Hotel Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/11
This was just the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life. The staff was very unfriendly. The rooms were dirty and the windows didn`t open. There was hair all over the floor in the room. Also, it smells like dusty. Get ready to sneeze the rest of your trip. Do not waste your time going there ! You better off going to Best Western.

interesting visit
By visitor, 3/26/11
The building is remodeled but maintains much historic charm. Wish I could say the same for the clientele. Modern tvs blaring out of rooms some how does not add to the historic value and created a tacky feeling. For this price, I would much rather stay at the Best Western over by the highway, where we spent our visit last summer. They know what "hospitality" means and you can get rooms with refrigerators and microwaves. Not at the Geiser Grand. But it is definitely worth a stop and a look-around. We always check out the historic hotels, across the country, in our travels, and this one was redone beautifully.

rude staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/21/10
I had a reservation and had emergency the day of so I called and cancelled. I asked for a refund or partial refund, they refused. I can understand this but when I asked to talk to the manager the sent me to the superviser. I again asked who the hotel manager was and they refused to tell me and misled me about who I was talking to. They expressed no sympathy for my emergency and were rude

BAD SERVICE IN RESTAURANT! REALLY BAD!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/25/09
My family and I were in Baker to go to Sumpter Days on May 23, 2009. That evening we decided to have a nice dinner at the Geiser Grand Hotel... What a horrible mistake...the service was extremely terrible, the waitress was very slow and inattentive, disappearing for long periods of time before we would see her again. After we had been there nearly an hour, still with no food, we very nicely told the manager of the restaurant about the poor service and she immediately coped an attitude, telling us that since we didn't have a reservation she had already told us it would be hard to get a table, we informed her that she'd told us we could have a table in 30 to 40 minutes and we told her we would wait. When the food finally got there, one of my son's onion rings had a big hair in it! The waitress was apologetic but again when the manager finally came over she said, "So what's YOUR story." She the began arguing with us about the service and saying we hadn't been there as long as we said we had. She did finally say maybe she could adjust the bill and we said the whole meal should be comped and I suggested we leave. We got up and left with everyone's meal uneaten. I have never in my life had such a bad experience at a restaurant. The food is barely adequate ( the two bites that I took!) and the prices are extremely high, i.e. a small bowl of pasta $23.00! So if you are traveling and looking for a nice place to have dinner pass this place by, keep on going to Ontario, there are great places to eat there.

one of the worst hotel experiences you could have
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/09
Bring your own mattress, we stayed in the luxury parlor suite with reservations for 4 adults. One of the beds was a hide a bed with springs sticking up, the staff was totally unresponsive. Baker is a great little town but you would be smart to find other accomadations

Worst Service Ever - Textbook case of what not to do
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/07
This is by far the worst service experience I have ever had in my life. When talking with local merchants, they were surprised that I made it out with my credit card in tact. We arrived during the Cattlemen's convention. The hotel failed to notify us this convention would be going on right outside our rooms (they said we should have got a call but they forgot). The convention would run until 10pm every night, and you could not make any reservations at the restaurant for Friday evening and all of Saturday. We indicated we were not happy with the failure to get a phone call and unavailability of the restaurant, and asked to speak to the hotel manager. The hotel manager REFUSED to come out and talk to us face to face, and indicated through the front desk clerk on the phone "We do not feel we have to make any amends." Not even a very simple "I apologize." We spoke with several other local merchants who indicated that such poor service is par for this hotel. This hotel also has a common practice of overbooking and if you arrive (with a reservation) and they are full, too bad, so sad. They also have a 3 day cancellation policy. So, if you arrive, and they are overbooked, your card will not be refunded because you did not call with 3 day notice. This is criminal. Call your visa card issuer and dispute the charge for "services not rendered/received." Do yourself a favor - go stay at the Best Western just off the freeway, who has more comfortable rooms, much friendlier (and competent) staff, and a nicer restaurant (not to mention a better price). Merchants like this need to understand that service is what makes your business, not being afraid of the customer.

We will be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/07
Visiting the Geiser Grand was a very special treat. Lots of beauty; great service. The beds weren't that comfortable but all else made up for that. All 3 in the group saw or experienced ghost activity. We can't wait to go back! A truely wonderful experience.
