This renovated hotel is located right across from Central Park . While it might not be the best location if you have a meeting downtown, it is convenient to Columbia University , the American Museum of Natural History , Harlem and many other uptown attractions. was great
By ,
the staff were helpful the girl behind the desk let us phone england rooms spotless walking distance of most places unless you are old or amoaner get there now before you book a expensive hotel wich is less appealing the one downside if you are nervous it is right in the middle of harlem and it is not recomended to walk round late at night that said like any other city then keep your wits about you dont take risks and enjoy your holiday

I would stay there again!!
By ,
My two teenage girls and myself were happy to fall into those comfortable queen size beds after a full day out on the city. We were happy with our room in the back of the hotel (no road noise) very quite. The rooms were small and the cable TV only had a few channels but the shower was hot and powerful. The elevator was slow so we usually walked down from the 7th floor but always took the elevator up at the end of the day. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Subway is just a block and a half away and great restaurants within walking distance. It was convenient, quite and comfortable for the price I would stay again!

suddenly in the midst of the night...
By ,
don't go there!! it looks nice and pretty...but in the midst of the night...loud banging noises from the cheap heaters can be heard from in every single room!! and it doesn't matter what room you go to, it's all the same!! I had 5 room changes, and all heaters made loud banging noises and some of them didn't even work properly! Other than the heating issue, the place was perfectly fine. But the heating was definetly an issue because i went in winter, so it was very frustrating.

We really enjoyed Astor on the Park
By ,
I have read many reviews of smalll rooms and being to far away from the night life. I find this not to be the case. Although the room was small it was spotless and nice, as was the bethroom. The staff was incredibly friendly and a joy to visit with. I loved the area, it was nice to be right across the street from Central Park and we walked the park often during our 5 day stay. We found plenty to do on Columbus Avenue, a very short walk from the hotel and many, many great local eateries. It was actually nice to get out of Times Square and back to our hotel. Accessing the subway was simple and easy and made it a breeze getting anywhere. I have recommended to several friends and will absolutely stay again.

Not great in winter...
By ,
The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly. However, my boyfriend and I were there at the start of Dec and during our 5 night stay there was no heating at all in our room. The hotel staff reassured us this would be fixed but it was a fob off and never was. This was dissapointing, even though we weren't in the room for long, just to sleep it wasn't nice to wake up cold or go to bed cold. The rooms are very small, small, high windows, reminded me of student accommodation. I think the pictures are misleading, it's a nice enough hotel but really is out of the way of things, it's almost at the top of Central Park and it quite a walk to downtown, which is fine if you want to walk lots. There is a close by subway though. The lift is also quite dodgy, takes a while to get to top floors. I think the 3 star rating it received on the website we bought our holiday was generous. It was okish but I wouldn't go back there, despite helpful friendly staff.

Loved it!
By ,
My son and I traveled to New York for the first time just over a year ago. We were on a tight budget and this hotel came through. It was very clean, the staff was extremely helpful and while it is not in the heart of where the tourist activities are, we really enjoyed riding the subway and walking everywhere. We are planning a trip for the whole family this Thanksgiving and were very disappointed to find that there are no rooms available during the time we will be there. Rooms are small, but who goes to New York to stay in the room?

Perfect for short stay
By ,
Comfortable room, small but adequate. Modern decor in on old building. A bit out of the way from downtown but certainly didn't bother us as tourists there for a short stay. Subways made things easy to get to and, walking around by day, you knew it was more like what actual New Yorkers experience, away from tourists. Really good value (using last minute internet deals). Service was great - very helpful staff. Directed us to local cafes and post office and arranged a car for us to get back to the airport, which was cheap and comfortable.

Good for Single Travellers
By ,
I got there at 2.30pm on 5th Feb and was given a room immediately. The lock was dodgy though, and Mohammed checked it and the window and asked the receptionist to give me another room - he had obviously found something he wasnt happy with. Maybe the window had been tampered with as it was on the ground floor. Anyway, after a wait of about 20mins, I was given room 805. Went into that and it was grand, not much of a view but that doesnt really matter unless your on the Meditteranean on your honeymoon. Had an hours rest as was knackered from the flight and then went off out. The receptionist directed me to the Metro and also showed me the diagram for using the shower - very neccessary to look at this! The room was cleaned every day, towels changed and everything which I wasnt really expecting as I was only there for 3 nights. The tv didnt work but that didnt bother me as I was looking at the guidebooks when I was in the room. Its not that noisy on that floor at night, until about 7am when people start using the showers, but I had took earplugs with me anyway as I live in the middle of nowhere in Ireland and wasnt sure I would sleep with all the city noise! They deffo came in useful. The room was warm which was great considering the warmest it got was minus 10. Only gripes - the maids kept forgetting to lock the door after they had cleaned and $150 was put onto my credit card as a security deposit which I wasnt told about when I booked. What do you do if you dont have a credit card? The receptionist told me it would be credited back to me so I will be interested to see my statement next month. I probably would stay there again, but I think I would prefer too be a little neare the action, and if I ever persuade my partner to go, I wouldnt stay there - its not really that sort of place. For a first visit though, it generally hit the spot

Never go back
By ,
Service is bad. We come at 1600h, and have to wait 1/2-hour for room. The room is not good insulated,we can hear noice from people on floor above. We stayed in 4 days (4-8/11-2006). The room is small. Not value for what we prepaid. On deaprture-day, we forget my husbands electric shaver, and we call back the hotel, but the staff said that they can't find any forgotten thing in the room. This not true!! Electric shaver cost over 250usd. We had to call back hotel many time (long distance call), before getting in touch with hotel-manager,even the staff said that they'll call us back, but they never do. Conclusion: STAY AWAY THIS HOTEL. MARK! we learn a lesson, that honesty is not what it was before...???!!!

take good walking shoes!!
By ,
we booked this hotel for a 4 day break to NYC. Altjough the rooms were tiny, they were absolutely spotless, clean linen and towels every day, beware tho if u have never been to nyc before as it is very far from the main lively areas, (west 106th)but once u get used to the subways, getting places is no problem. Staff were helpful, and volunteered to book our cab back to JFK on our departure, we were told it would be the same as coming in ($45 plus tolls) but in fact when we got to the airport the driver charged us $70 plus tolls!! So check in advance with the hotel how much it will cost u but all in all decent enough for the price.
