Good Location...BUT...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/31/11
This hotel is in a prime location, which is one of the reasons we booked it. The free happy hour at the hotel was nice. Bottom shelf liquor, but nice. Yes, the rooms are small, but you will find that at many reasonably priced hotels in the art deco district. This hotel is for the YOUNG crowd. Its best for those about 28 and younger. The lobby is booming, booming, with music every night you can't even hear the person next to you. Try your best to request a room on the third floor, in the back, if you want a little peace. There are stereos in every room and the young ones blare the music ALL NIGHT long. Don't bother asking the front desk for help. The front desk staff are very young....and not very nice. They were unorganized as well. Most of them had an attitude when you asked them a question. The cleaning staff were good and my room was always well-cleaned, this was a plus. If you want some peace and you are not looking for a 24 hour party, then don't stay at any of the hotels in this group.

Worst place ever
By Gerhardt, 1/11/10
Would give 0 stars if possible. Reserved room type was not available. Other room was small and stinked and had no light. Could not get a working alarm clock. They charged me 300 dollars in deposit. They also overcharged me for the stay. No way to talk to them. 100 percent rip off mentality.

Reserved N/A, Credit Card Charged Anyway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
Arrived at the hotel to experience rude service and was told our reserved room was not available because it was listed in the computer system as "out of order" due to a problem with the "curtains" in the room. Hotel front desk clerk assured us that our credit card would not be charged if we went to another hotel. We left and stayed elsewhere. Guess what? Hotel Shelley charged us more than a hundred dollars and we did not even stay at the hotel. Their rude manager Laquanda refuses to issue a refund. I highly recommend others avoid what could be a scam at the Hotel Shelley.

Dave is fantastic. M.T.K.from Texas
By Mike, 4/8/09
The hotel smelled, was dark in the hallway, the rooms were dark and very small. I had luggage stolen there and the security camera was not on for two days. They say a comp. breakfeast...only juice, coffee and milk. I wouldn't go back there if it was offered to me for free.

Negative Reviews are true
By Enoch, 12/21/08
The negatives are generally true. The rooms are small, corridor to rooms are horror flick like and the rooms evoke a brothel like feeling. The reception staff was nice and helpful though. A big plus is the free wifi and location. As stated by other reviewers I also saw a fair share of drug addicts and beggars near the hotel but I believe this is characteristic of this part of Miami. My biggest problem with this place are the beds. They are low quality to start with and the springs are terribly worn out. The bed in our room pitched in all directions but flat & had huge valleys sunk in them WITHOUT ANYONE SITTING OR LAYING ON THEM. This amazed me - what kind of motel would have such bad beds (we switched rooms once and had the same worn out beds)? The beds were torture to sleep on. My back still hurts from this experience. Motel 6 has nicer beds, so I just don't get it. I marked the overall performance 2 stars because a decent bed is essential to any motel experience. Compared to other hotels in the area I suppose this hotel is cheaper but for 2 nights we spent almost $400 USD. I thought this would get us further in Miami but I guess not. I guess we need to come from a country that has Euros to stay in a nice motel in Miami.

ROACH MOTEL
By Vitamin C Veloster, 4/16/08
I stayed in this hotel 3 times. The service and demeanor declined each time. Very serious roach problem. Sad that such a great concept has gone to waste.

Brothel Feeling!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/22/08
I ONLY liked the location. It was located in the heart of South Beach. If you like to party and have plenty of money to do it this is the hotel to stay at. If you want to hang out at the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it. The service was okay. The room had purple walls, it was very small, no closet light, and the hotel seemed like a place you would take a hooker to. The toilet leaked everytime you flushed it. Needs to be renovated desperately. And the drinks at the bar downstairs are expensive as hell.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
if you are going down to miami to party your ass off, stumble back to your room to sleep just so you can wake up and do it again, this hotel is perfect! The location cant be beat, walk across the street for the beach, all the dining, bars, liqour store, quick food and shopping is ALL steps away.. its all there, and the rooms are cheap! only down side is that the service isnt that good and the celing leaks sometimes... but seriously, im not high maintance, i can deal.

THEY RIPPED US OFF
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/07
I've stayed at this hotel before with very few problems in the past. The staff is nice, but they are not helpful at all. There are no trashcans to throw away your garbage which explains the presence of roaches. Also, the bar in the hotel is managed by an outside owner with the South Beach Group who trains his bartenders to rip people off. I was headed out of the hotel with my girl friends, but was stopped by the male bartender who asked, "hey ladies, let's do shots." Anywhere else in the world, this would mean that the bartender was offering us shots. We went to the bar, took a shot that he suggested and then got stuck with a bill that totalled over $50 (for five shots!!). He even made us pay for his shot. I told this story to someone in the airport who stayed across the street at Chesterfield, also part of the South Beach Group company. He said that the female bartender did the same thing to him only she stuck him with a $100 tab for two shots. Avoid the bars in the hotel at all costs. They will overcharge you or scam you into buying shots when they lead you to believe they are on the house.
