I LOVE THE BLOCK!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/08
I couldnt believe they offered me free beer when we checked in, I was so stoked! I meet all types of other cool snowboarders that were also there to have a good time!! WE checked out FREE Snowboard flicks, and they even had free porn and game renatals! In the morning we were tired from staying out on the strip with the FREE passes we got to Club Blu from the front desk but not to worry the staff hooked up with free Energy Drinks and hangover relief drinks. Then we only walked 1 Block to ride Heavenly!! It was an epic weekend! I love THE BLOCK and wouldnt stay anywhere else in Tahoe!!!

Vivid room a rip-off
By Bruce, 12/31/07
I have to agree with many of the negative comments listed here and wish I had read them before booking. Basically the hotel is two small old converted hotel buildings one from the 50’s and one from the 60/’70’s. The best way to describe it is as a typical California fraternity house. Most California fraternities covert old apartment buildings into fraternity houses and often the more senior guys in the house get to customize their rooms. This place was very much like my old frat house at UCSB, basically a dump, poorly maintained with some interesting rooms that were crafted on a college student’s budget. Everything in our room looked like it could have been bought at Goodwill or big lots (the big screen from Craigs List), and this was one of their signature rooms- the Vivid Room. The bed was a lumpy futon, the room was freezing when we arrived- the rooms have very old wall heaters. Ours was a Coleman unit from the early 60’s and the cheap $5 Home Depot thermostat was installed about two feet from the heater, so as soon as the heater started working ok the thermostat shut it down (so the whole room didn’t get warm)- then the heater actually broke. I went downstairs and told them about it “sorry, all the space heaters are already checked out.” So, this hotel is so poorly maintained that it keeps a decent supply of space heaters on stock and all of them being checked out isn’t unusual. Hey I’m all for having fun- I did book the Vivid room- but when I’m shelling out good money ($300) there are some basics that need to be addressed, like not freezing to death in my room. It took a 1/2 hour for the water to get hot as well. The bedding was strictly Walmart “bed in a bag” from 10 years ago. As for it being a theme room, it does have a stripper pole, but it comes with a big sign next to it saying it’s for display purposes only! Are you kidding me! I pay extra for a room with a stripper pole and my girl can’t dance on it? It’s like paying extra to party like Kid Rock and then after they take your money being told to party like the Mormon Tabernacle choir. Lame, Lame Lame. And the place is not cheap. I can see how the concept could work, but something boarders are looking for is a good deal too, and this isn’t it. I could go on and on about why this place was a ripoff. I do want to make it clear though that this place is a dump with bad management. The staff itself is very nice and accommodating. I really liked them, They are just doing there jobs with very limited resources and boneheads or greedy scumbags for owners.

It was so disgusting and dirty!
By Joey, 3/27/07
Cool Concept. Terrible execution. 1960s building charging brand-new rates. Slapped one coat of paint on the walls added WiFi and a PS2 (which didn't work) and called it a new "hotel". It is a motel with Astroturf instead of carpeting. It smelled of beer and vomit. Disgusting mattress with wires poking through. Electrical wiring shorted out and sparks flew. Refrigerator did not work. Raccoons roaming the hallway - thank GOD we were already packing up the car when we saw that!

Never Stay Here
By G, 6/2/06
Never stay here!!! First off, the motel does not look like the pictures on the web site at all. It is Old with no hot water! ***Rude customer service***... the motel is ran by a bunch of 18 year olds (if that) No maid service! They wouldn't even bring toliet paper to the room. We had to go it (Did I mention it was snowing.) We are young and like to have fun... but this place is a JOKE!!! Never, Never, Stay here!!!

Three Stars? NOT!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/11/05
Picked hotel based on three star rating. What a mistake. This may be a fun place for those who enjoy the unusual hotel feature of loud and endless gangsta' hip-hop blaring most of the day and night. But for those who enjoy a place to hang clothes, like modern as opposed to lightly re-furbed 60's trash hotels, appreciate a bathroom built 1980 or later, there are numerous and superior hotels in the area with one and two star ratings. Almost any hotel would hold up well in comparison. They advertise themselves as follows "THE BLOCK is a modern day renaissance in high altitude accommodations." I would change that to "THE BLOCK is a lightly re-furbed 60ish clap board roadside motel masquerading as a niche snow boarders heaven."

Not a chance
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/27/05
There for a bachelorette party, asked for adjoining rooms, did not receive. Bathroom was anything but clean. Did not supply enough TP to make it thru the night-knowing it was to be occupied by 4 girls per room. Iron and ironing board were gross, and we were required to go fetch it from the front desk. Drapes were not wide enough to block out the light- and in the 2nd room, were not hung properly and could not be used. The DJ was a great touch, the location is superb, but for $200 per room, per night- we were ripped off!!

Anything but Square
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/7/04
Anything but square is the hotels motto, the rates are ok. this hotels target group is snowborders. The rooms are super clean, they have out door music during the day. they give free energy drinks, snacks, dvds, video games, and hi-speed internet. they have a hot tub and three B.B.Q's. the over all enviroment is laid back and relaxed
