Vivid room a rip-off
I have to agree with many of the negative comments listed here and wish I had read them before booking. Basically the hotel is two small old converted hotel buildings one from the 50’s and one from the 60/’70’s. The best way to describe it is as a typical California fraternity house. Most California fraternities covert old apartment buildings into fraternity houses and often the more senior guys in the house get to customize their rooms. This place was very much like my old frat house at UCSB, basically a dump, poorly maintained with some interesting rooms that were crafted on a college student’s budget. Everything in our room looked like it could have been bought at Goodwill or big lots (the big screen from Craigs List), and this was one of their signature rooms- the Vivid Room. The bed was a lumpy futon, the room was freezing when we arrived- the rooms have very old wall heaters. Ours was a Coleman unit from the early 60’s and the cheap $5 Home Depot thermostat was installed about two feet from the heater, so as soon as the heater started working ok the thermostat shut it down (so the whole room didn’t get warm)- then the heater actually broke. I went downstairs and told them about it “sorry, all the space heaters are already checked out.” So, this hotel is so poorly maintained that it keeps a decent supply of space heaters on stock and all of them being checked out isn’t unusual. Hey I’m all for having fun- I did book the Vivid room- but when I’m shelling out good money ($300) there are some basics that need to be addressed, like not freezing to death in my room. It took a 1/2 hour for the water to get hot as well. The bedding was strictly Walmart “bed in a bag” from 10 years ago. As for it being a theme room, it does have a stripper pole, but it comes with a big sign next to it saying it’s for display purposes only! Are you kidding me! I pay extra for a room with a stripper pole and my girl can’t dance on it? It’s like paying extra to party like Kid Rock and then after they take your money being told to party like the Mormon Tabernacle choir. Lame, Lame Lame. And the place is not cheap. I can see how the concept could work, but something boarders are looking for is a good deal too, and this isn’t it. I could go on and on about why this place was a ripoff. I do want to make it clear though that this place is a dump with bad management. The staff itself is very nice and accommodating. I really liked them, They are just doing there jobs with very limited resources and boneheads or greedy scumbags for owners.
