Luxury Relaxing Holiday

My wife and I just returned from a very relaxing one week holiday at the Villa Premiere Hotel in Puerto Vallarta. We had a honeymoon suite, which included a king-size bed and plenty of storage space. This room had a large balcony, with a jacuzzi tub, hanging chair and table for two to enjoy meals or drinks outside. The balcony has a roof for shade and to keep any rain out, although it never came close to raining all week. Our room was at the end of the hall, so it was very quiet. Also, traffic noise from the busy road one-half block east of the hotel was minimal. The room was kept very clean and the maids were there at least twice a day to tidy up and replenish supplies. The soaps and towels were high quality and plentiful, although having a shampoo/conditioner blend in one bottle is not reflective of a top hotel. The mini bar was kept full at all times with water, sodas and beer. All of the rooms face the ocean, so you could enjoy the fabulous sunsets from our balcony, if you wanted to. Since we selected the all-inclusive option, we spent most evenings watching the sunset while enjoying supper at one of the 3 restaurants at the hotel. The food was usually fantastic, especially the seafood. The shrimp and sea bass entree at Murales was scrumptious, plus they made very good cappucinnos. The poolside restaurant, La Cieba, was very good, but we preferred the upscale Murales. The house wines were average to good, but the Sauvignon Blanc was exceptional. Bring a sweater for late evenings by the ocean, when the wind picks up. We had all of our breakfasts at the poolside restaurant and they have a wide variety of American and Mexican breakfasts. We ordered egg-white omelettes most days and they were made as ordered. The juices and fruit are fresh and some juice mixes were very unusual but tasty. We ate most of our lunches at the pool and the chicken quesadilla was very good. There are 2 pools, one for swimming and floating and the other a swim-up bar. The loungers surround the larger pool and were usually close to full, mostly from 1 to 4 in the afternoon. We usually reserved a couple of loungers in the morning and had no problems with keeping our spots. We went to the beach a few times, but the sand is course and there are a few too many rocks to enjoy playing in the surf. The ocean was warm enough to play in, but the waves and undertow were fairly strong. Also, there is a steady parade of beach vendors to bother you if you lay on the beach or on one of the beach beds beside the hotel. Hotel security did a good job of waving the annoying vendors away, and a simple "no thanks" would keep them moving along. The hotel is classy, with a nice spa (we tried the couples massage) and a decent gym. The staff are service-focused and very friendly, with special mention to the concierges (Christian and Ana), Murales staff (Jose M., Armando and Rosy) and pool bar staff (Juan Carlos and Jorge). The hotel is located on the north end of downtown and was easy walking distance to the boardwalk and Malecon shopping area. Even though we went at their busiest time of the year, the town was not too crazy with tourists and we never felt unsafe walking around. Minor complaints were: gym supplies (water and towels) not replenished regularly, no skim milk at any restaurant, smoking was allowed everywhere, and poor coordination of all-inclusive rights on date of departure (the front desk staff should have let us know we had full rights to 5:00 pm not just until the noon checkout time, which we learned from Juan Carlos at the pool bar). Overall we were satisfied with the quality, value and service at this hotel. If you are looking for a classy, relaxed hotel where no children are allowed, this is your place.
