Our new "regular" hotel.
We stayed in a hotel next to the Ascot suites last year and decided on a whim to stay an extra day at the much nicer place next door--Ascot Suites. We fell in love with Ascot Suites.
Pros:
1) The room we had was large and welcoming. It's a very classy place. We had a comfy bed, the interior is pleasing and well decorated (though a tad bit country British Old Lady in style, and the house coffee is nice.
2) A jacuzi tub easily fits two people, the balcony gave us. Some rooms even have windows over the tub, so you can watch tv while you soak!
3) The rooftop has a widow's walk with several seats and a wonderful view of the Morro Rock. We always sit up there and watch the sunset over coffee or wine.
4) In the afternoon, there is free wine tasting and snacks. It's not my scene, but it's always full of people who seem to have a wonderful time.
5) Free coffee all day. It may not seem like much, but in the lobby, there's fairly nice coffee all day long.
Cons:
1) The price is rather off putting for us. It's typically close to $200 a night to stay here during the week. We found better prices by calling them directly with a AAA card than we ever found through an online travel site.
2) No wifi or high speed internet. For the price you pay to stay here, you'd expect this, but no dice. Across the street is a nice coffee shop with cheap internet service, but that's a pain.
3) No mini fridge! One of the major attractions of the central coast is the San Luis Farmer's market every Thursday night. The lack of a fridge really kills this since you can't take as much fresh produce on the go with you. There's a super small mini bar fridge packed with typical overpriced fair, but no real way store leftovers in your room.
We've reccomended this hotel to many friends, and all of them LOVE it. We stay in Morro Bay several times a year, and this is always the hotel we stay at when we have the money. It's worth it, and you'll feel like you're spoiling yourself by staying here. Just make sure you book with Ascot Suites instead of the cheaper, lesser, Ascot Inn across the street.
